When I graduated from USC's MPW program, I thought I would be writing adult fiction or even screenplays. But with the birth of my son a year later, my whole world changed, including my writing. I joined SCBWI to learn more about the children's publishing industry and published my first book five years later. This May, my fourth book will be released with little bee books. It is a nonfiction picture book about a real dog named Sallie who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg . I wanted to tell Sallie's story because not only did she stand beside her men in battle, she stayed with them for three days...

Melanie Conklin is a writer, reader, and life-long lover of books. She lives in South Orange, New Jersey with her husband and two small maniacs, who are thankfully book lovers, too. Melanie spent a decade as a product designer and approaches her writing with the same three-dimensional thinking and fastidious attention to detail. Counting Thyme (Penguin, April 2016) is her debut middle grade novel.
