I'm a journalist and professor who writes about women's history and the arts. My books are Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women and Tattoo; The Blue Tattoo: The Life of Olive Oatman; and (coming August 4, 2020) Looking for Miss America:A Pageant's 100-Year Quest to Define Womanhood. I've been a lecturer and keynote speaker at colleges and museums nationally and I've served as a consultant on exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, The New York Historical Society, and The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Dr. Christine Montross is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, and Co-director of the Medical Humanities and Bioethics Scholarly Concentration at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is also a practicing inpatient psychiatrist. She completed medical school and residency training at Brown University, where she received the Isaac Ray Award in Psychiatry and the Martin B. Keller Outstanding Brown Psychiatry Resident Award.
