Longtime friends, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Kathryn Stott, create a unique classical music experience with their new recording, Songs from the Arc of Life. The album includes pieces they have frequently performed but never recorded, as well as a handful of discoveries. Songs from the Arc of Life begins and ends with two, much-beloved settings of the traditional "Ave Maria," opening with the soaring, radiant Bach/Gounod arrangement and closing with Schubert's more serene, contemplative version. In between is a remarkable spectrum of music that includes such enduring favorites as Brahms' "Lullaby," Dvork's "Songs My Mother Taught Me," Elgar's "Salut d'amour," Gade's "Jalousie" and Saint-Saens' "The Swan," as well as richly evocative works by Debussy, Delius, Faur, Gershwin, Grieg, Kriesler, Messaien, Schumann, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. Ma and Stott also include a haunting piece by the contemporary composer Giovanni Sollima, a friend and colleague of both artists.

Head Carrier
By Pixies,
For the first time since their very early days, the Pixies spent a total of six weeks in pre-production, writing, arranging and rehearsing a plethora of songs. Between the band's late-80s/early 90s touring schedule and delivering an album once a year, there simply wasn't time for more than a day or so of fleshing out their music before recording started. 'This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,' said Pixies drummer David Lovering. 'By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make 'Indie Cindy.' And it was great working with Tom...he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.

C'MON YOU KNOW Deluxe
By Gallagher, Liam
EDITORIAL REVIEWS
Liam Gallagher's third solo studio album C'MON YOU KNOW looks set to be one of the biggest album events of the year. Anticipation for the album was ignited with the lead single "Everything's Electric," which powered into the UK Top 20 as Liam's biggest solo hit so far. Now Liam unleashes the album's title track, "C'MON YOU KNOW" - featuring Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig on saxophone - which is out now on Warner Records. While "C'MON YOU KNOW" pulsates with the traits that have made Liam such an iconic figure - a raucous rock 'n' roll anthem topped by his signature snarl - it's also a strong step forward in terms of both attitude and audio. Musically it's layered with unexpected sonic touches: surging Motown-tinged gospel backing vocals, shrieking saxophone from Ezra Koenig, and vintage Moog synths heightening the sonic maelstrom.
