Winter Reading Programs begin in January!

Several branches of the Rutherford County Library System will be offering incentives to adults and teens who participate in their winter reading programs.

The Linebaugh, MGL and TEC branches will be offering the 1st Annual Harry Nelson Memorial Winter Reading Program, beginning January 26, through March 7, 2020. Sign-ups begin on Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. with a special kick-off event featuring the Jake Leg Stompers Band. Harry Nelson was a long-time Linebaugh patron, who loved the library and roots music. Memorials given on his behalf, along with support from the Friends of Linebaugh Library, are being used to restart the program in his memory.

Participants will read six books in six weeks to be eligible for a $10 gift card from Simply Pure Sweets, a chance to receive a book during the weekly drawing and eligibility for the grand prize of a $100 gift card to the Greenhouse Garden Patch.

The Smyrna branch will offer the Walter King Hoover Winter Reading Program from January 13, through February 22, 2020. The program is names in honor of long-time Smyrna resident and historian Walter King Hoover, and the theme this year is "Take the Challenge!"

Participants must be 14 years of age and up and may sign up at any point during the program. To complete the program, they must read five books before February 22. All adult, young adult, honor, graphic novels, E-books and audiobooks count toward the program. There will be five weekly drawings for those who have read at least one book. Those who finish five books receive a completion prize and are eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing. Visit the Smyrna branch to learn about the program and the Above & Beyond opportunities.
