Marilyn Morrison receives Friend of the Year Award

Friends of Linebaugh Library (FOLL) member, Marilyn Morrison, has been awarded the Friend of the Year award at the recent Tennessee Library Association Conference in Chattanooga. The award is presented each year by the Friends of Tennessee Libraries. FOLL Board president Linda Vile and Board member Eva Graalman were in attendance to celebrate the occasion, along with several staff members of the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS).

It was noted in the program that Morrison serves tirelessly as a volunteer for Friends of Linebaugh in the FOLL bookstore. She is at the library every week, three to five days a week, making sure that new donations are organized and the FOLL bookshelves in the library are packed and neat for patrons every day. Morrison has a rapport with patrons that shows her love for our staff and the services we offer. She's always willing to help.

Morrison works at the monthly FOLL book sales, and is always sharing the news of the library with those who attend. Linebaugh Branch Librarian, Carol Ghattas shares: “Marilyn always has a good word to say every time I meet her, and she encourages our staff at every opportunity. She also takes high schoolers, who are working to get community service hours and gives them the opportunity to help her in the bookstore, unloading boxes and organizing materials. I see her talking with them and building them up any way she can. We have a wonderful Friends of Library Board and group of volunteers, but Marilyn Morrison outshines them all with her consistent presence and support. She is a well-deserved recipient of this special award.”

TEC hosts Business After Hours

The Technology Engagement Center (TEC) was the site in June for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. Kathleen Tyree and staff were pleased to be able to show off the features of the newest branch in the Rutherford County Library System to over 120 business professionals and chamber members.

The Friends of Linebaugh Library, a group that raises support for three RCLS branches, were happy to greet visitors during the evening to encourage them to become members of FOLL. The Friends also sponsored the food for the evening, catered by Simply Pure Sweets.

Tyree and other RCLS staff, including Director Rita Shacklett, shared about the many services provided by the TEC, including computer classes, meeting spaces, a recording studio, 3D printers, a virtual reality headset and children's STEM area. Attendees were enthousiasitic in their response to the TEC, many visiting for the first time.

The TEC celebrates their first anniversary in July. If you haven't visited our newest branch, make plans to pass by today. The TEC is located at 306 Minerva Drive, Murfreesboro.
