LIVELY EVENING ON MAIN A GREAT SUCESS!
The inaugural fundraiser of the Rutherford County Library Foundation was a great sucess, and Foundation Chair Lance Lee, along with the rest of the Foundation Board members want to thank everyone who participated in the event for their support. A total of $44,135 was raised through in-kind and actual sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations. This is a wonderful start and will go a long way in future building projects for the Eagleville Bicentennial Public Library.
The weather was wonderful, as over 135 people gathered for the event at the Lively House on East Main Street. A special thank you to Smokin' Buttz and Rolled4Ever Ice Cream for providing our fabulous food, Parkway Wine & Spirits and Cedar Glade Brews for the drinks, and Chase Clanton & the Vintage Vibes and Rutherford County Historical Society Storytellers for entertainment.
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2022, for another great opportunity to show your support for the Rutherford County Library System!
RCLS UPDATE ON PHASED PLAN
Due to the improved conditions in Rutherford County and the updated protocols provided through the Centers for Disease Control, the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) Board of Directors voted at their May meeting to dissolve the COVID phased plan for all branch libraries, leaving restoration of services and any residual protocols up to Branch Managers and Supervisors with the approval of the Director of Libraries.
Masks are no longer mandated for patrons in RCLS facilities. While good health practices emphasized during the heightened days of the pandemic continue to be encouraged, patrons will find libraries slowly restoring services and practices to pre-pandemic norms.
“We are so grateful to our patrons for their support and encouragement during this past year,” shares Director of Libraries Rita Shacklett. “They enabled our staff to continue to serve their needs safely and with confidence due to their patience and willingness to adjust with us to the necessary changes we had to make in our services.”
For any questions about safety protocols or services, please call your local branch library.
Arbor Day Dedication of American Heritage Tree Trail at the TEC
The Technology Engagement Center hosted a special Arbor Day event on April 30, for a gathering of over thirty people for the official Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) dedication of the new trees that have been planted on the property outside the library. Of the eight new trees on the site, several are understory trees, and some staff hope will grow to be proud replacements for the larger trees that were lost due to the construction of the this newest branch library.
Hobgood Elementary School, just nextdoor to the TEC, has two "Moon Trees" planted, a Loblolly Pine and a Sycamore. Both of these trees were descended from seeds that went on the Apollo 14 mission with Astronaut Stuart Roosa.
Branch Manager at the TEC, Katheen Tyree, shares, "Learning of the American Heritage Tree Farm inspired my purchase of a York Dogwood for my yard this spring." Come by and visit the tree trail soon at the Technology Engagement Center, located at 306 Minerva Drive in Murfreesboro.
