Masks Now Required at RCLS Libraries
As the Rutherford County Library System continues under Phase Two of their reopening to the public, all branches of the library system will require face masks to be worn by those entering their facilities as of Wednesday, July 22, in accordance to the Rutherford County Mayor’s mask mandate.
The RCLS Board of Directors approved this amendment to Phase Two of the reopening plan during their monthly meeting on Monday, July 20.
Along with the addition of the mask requirement, the Board approved for three branches (Eagleville, MGL, and the Technology Engagement Center) to discontinue their Senior Hour service. Linebaugh and Smyrna branches will continue to provide Senior Hour the first hour of operations each day.
For those who do not feel comfortable wearing a mask into the library, curbside service is still available and recommended for use.
Director of Libraries, Rita Shacklett, says “We will continue at RCLS to work to stay safe together while providing quality service during these trying times.”
Modified hours of operation continue as follows:
- Linebaugh (Main Branch): 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Curbside is available from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

RCLS staff continue to wear masks when working with the public. Sneeze guards have been installed at service desks, and public computers have been separated to comply with social distancing guidelines. All branches are limited to 50% occupancy during Phase Two.
There will be no public events in August at any of our libraries, though some meeting rooms may be available with capacity limitations.
