Warmer weather means lots of programs and activities at the library. Here's a taste of just a few of the summer reading happenings at the library this summer. For more information on events for all ages, as well as details on how to register, call or visit our website.
Childrens Summer Reading Program
Manchester Public Library's summer reading program for children beings on June 24th, 2019 with great activities and the chance to earn prizes for reading! This program is for babies or young children to who are being read to and for school age children up through grade 5 reading on their own. Reading logs may be picked up or printed from our website beginning on June 21st. Children who reach their first prize level can come to the library to receive an awesome summer reading t-shirt, while supplies last! The first day for prizes is June 24th. The summer reading program runs through August 17th and the last day for prizes is August 30th.
Adult Summer Reading Program
The adult summer reading program at MPL beings on June 18th, 2019 and runs through August 30th. This year there will be more special programs than ever and we have some amazing prizes to give away. The first 300 people to register will receive a free t-shirt, so sign up early! Registration can be done by completing a blue registration slip at the Circulation Desk at either building. During the summer, fill out white Title Entry slips to be entered into the grand drawing for one of six differently themed Grand Prize packs: Grilling, Breakfast, Family Baking, Theater Tickets, Yoga and Crafts. Photos and full descriptions will be posted in both buildings in the month of June.
Teen Summer Reading Program
The teen summer reading program will begin on June 24th. Teens in grades 6-12 will earn an awesome summer reading t-shirt after reading 2 books. They can keep on reading for a chance to win one of many prizes, with the drawings being held on August 30th. A reading log will be available online and at both buildings. Make sure to check out the Teen Services website for all the out-of-this-world teen events this summer.
?Coming Soon to Whiton - Self Service Station
Beginning this summer, patrons will have the opportunity to check out their own items if they so choose at our new self-service station at Whiton, as pictured below. Keep an eye out for it!
Childrens Summer Reading Kickoffs
Preschool Summer Reading Kickoff - Friday, June 21st, 2019, 10am at Mary Cheney Library. Spaceship Harmony: A Musical Journey Through the Universe with Michele Urban will bring intergalactic fun to families! Don't miss this out-of-this-world musical adventure to celebrate the start of the summer.
Summer Reading Kickoff - Saturday, June 22nd, 2019, 10:30am at Mary Cheney Library. Get excited for the children's summer reading program with mime Robert Rivest as he presents Space: First Mime on the Moon. Using mime, comedy, and interactive stories, Robert Rivest explores a universe of humorous space stories; plenty of audience participation will help bring this "universe of stories" to life!
Don't Miss the Adult Summer Reading Kickoff!
The official kickoff for the adult summer reading program will be on June 18th at 6 p.m. at Cheney. There will be prizes, pizza and ice cream, bingo, music by Horizon Blue Band, crafts, and more! This is the first chance to sign up for the adult summer reading program and get your t-shirt before everyone else. Start off the season with a "big bang" and get excited about all the activities happening this summer.
