Update on the New Library Building

Over 120 Manchester residents attended the design workshops two months ago and hundreds more responded to the town's online survey at YourVoiceMattersManchesterCT.com. Among other things expressed by residents, there was a clear preference for having more traditional looking, arched windows in the red brickwork portions of the first-draft design. The 12-person Library Building Committee has voted to move ahead with the basic exterior design previously shown, although some additional minor changes will be incorporated in upcoming months. Work by the architects and Committee is underway this winter to determine how best to fit the needed shelving, seating, and workspaces into the three floors. Read the report of the workshop results and keep up with the construction project at YourVoiceMattersManchesterCT.com.

Exciting Changes to hoopla Bonus Borrows

Starting in March 2024, for the last seven days of each calendar month patrons will be able to choose from a selection of TV shows, movies, comics and manga, eBooks, and audiobooks without using their monthly borrows in hoopla. Not only do these Bonus Borrows not count against your limit, but there is also no additional cost to the library for Bonus Borrows. All Manchester residents with a valid library card are eligible to use hoopla's regular content as well as Bonus Borrows. Book Review: Evil Eye by Etaf Rum

Our Adult Bookmarked Box selection for September 2023 was "Evil Eye" by Etaf Rum. Reader's Advisor Lynn K. gave this book five stars on our Manchester Public Library, CT Goodreads account! Here are her thoughts:

"Yarra is a Palestinian American woman, a wife and mother of two girls, living in the present day America South. She is unhappy, dissatisfied with her marriage and her job, and plagued by her strong emotional reactions that sometimes get her into trouble. Her life events lead her to therapy where she begins to understand the intergenerational trauma she's inherited from her people in general and her mother in particular. She learns to notice and respond to her own emotions and desires in healthy ways. This is a book to which I know many women will relate. It's gratifying to see Yarra get to know herself and begin to create the life she wants for herself and her daughters. For fans of "The Henna Artist" by Alka Joshi."
