Join us for an ALL AGES program as part of West Allis Winter Week!

 

What is hygge (pronounced hoo-gah)? Hygge is a Dutch term that refers to a quality of coziness that makes you feel content and happy. Join us for a night of hygge-inspired activities throughout the entire library, including a hot cocoa bar, cookies, crafts for adults and children alike, board games, puzzles, and more. 

Royalty will also be visiting so make sure not to miss this very special event!

Readers of all ages are invited to track their reading and enter to win prizes this winter. Registration is going on now! All ages have the option to sign-up online HERE or in person at the library. Prizes will be available starting January 6, 2020. Winter Reading runs until February 29.

Monday, January 13 at 10 AM: Wisconsin Birds and Their Backyard Habitat presented by Diane Robinson, DNR

Come out and learn about our local birds from Dianne Robinson of the Department of Natural Resources.

Monday, January 27 at 10 AM: A Wealth of Nature presented by Eddee Daniel

Eddee Daniel aims to encourage people to visit, enjoy, and support parks and reserves in South Eastern Wisconsin. Join us as he shows off lots of beautiful images of places all over the region.

 

Books & Coffee 

Saturday, January 18 at 10 AM

Join us for a cup of coffee and a book discussion! This month we will be discussing Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak. A limited number of book copies will be available at the library beginning one month prior to the book club date. Tabletoppers unite! For casual players, avid tabletop pros, and everyone in between, our library has a space for you to connect with other gamers! Meet local gaming group, The West Allis Area Gamers on select Saturdays. Feel free to bring a favorite game to play, or drop in and join! Ages 15 and up.

 

Getting Crafty 

Monday, January 27 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM

This month's project is Mason Jar Snow Globes. All supplies will be provided. Each session is limited to 25 participants, ages 18 and up. Registration is required and begins on January 13 at 9 AM. Register online HERE or call (414) 302-8500.

 



 Random Fandom: Riverdale

Thursday, January 9 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM

Kids and teens in 4th through 12th grade! Are you a fan of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and all the drama that is Riverdale? Come to this event and celebrate the TV show and Archie comics! As usual, we'll have games, snacks, and crafts. 

 

Friday Fun! 

Friday, January 24 from 3:30 - 5:30 PM

Come hang out with us at the library! We'll have games, including our Nintendo Switch, coloring sheets, and snacks. Friday Fun is a drop-in program for patrons in grades 6 - 12. You are welcome to stay for all two hours, or just hang out for a bit! Feel free to bring your own Nintendo Switch controller or age appropriate game!

 

 

 Life Skills for Teens: Goal Setting and Journaling 

Thursday, January 30 at 6:30 PM

Teens, are you wondering what skills might help you be an adult? Then join us for one or all sessions of a special Life Skills for Teens series. Every month we will help you learn a skill that will help you now, and hopefully serve you well as you get older. This month, we will be learning goal setting and journaling skills. Life Skills events are for teens, or students in grades 6 - 12.

 Lego Club  

Saturday, January 4 from 2 - 3 PM

Join our Lego Club for kids in grades K5 and up. Make Lego creations that will be exhibited in the Children's Dept. display case. The Library provides the Legos, you provide the imagination! This event is free, and all Legos must remain in the Library. Registration is not required.

 

 Switch Gaming for Kids  

Friday, January 10 from 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Kids in grades 1 - 5 can come play on the Library's Nintendo Switch. Each session we will play a specific game. This month's game is Mario Kart 8 (rated E). Kids will take turns rotating to play! Switch Gaming is a drop-in program, so kids can stay for the entire program or just a bit. 

 

Homeschool Hangout: Yarn Painting  

Thursday, January 23 from 1 - 2 PM

During this month's Homeschool Hangout, we are going create some paintings using yarn. This program is for homeschooled children ages 5 - 11 and their families. Registration is not required.

 

  Family Movie  

Toy Story 4 (rated G; 1 hr. 40 min.)

Friday, January 24 at 2:30 PM

All ages are welcome! This month, the movie will be shown in the Storytime Room. Children 6 and under must have an adult with them. Kids are welcome to bring a blanket or pillow.

 

 Art Cart  

Monday, January 27 from 6:30 - 8 PM

All ages are welcome! Children 6 and under must have an adult with them. Join us for a weekly craft, while supplies last!
