Good afternoon,

The weather might not feel like fall, but the calendar says October. We have many fun things planned for this month at the library. Annual favorites return, like the Fall Festival of Leaves photo contest at our Paxton Branch, and Library After Dark at Main Library. We have an Art Show all this month at Main Library and Northside Branch and a special effects makeup demonstration at the Main Library Annex. We're also excited to welcome Richie Webber, who is currently featured on A&E's series "60 Days In: Narcoland" later this month.

As always, if you have suggestions for library events, I love to hear them. See you at the library!

From the Bottom Up: My Journey Back From Addiction

Main Library Annex Room B, Thursday October 17, 6-7:30pm

Prominently featured each week in A&E's Hit TV show "60 Days in: Narcoland," Richie Webber is a recovering heroin addict who has made it his life's mission to help others get clean and sober.

This event is a great opportunity to hear Richie’s story and ask him about his experiences.

Come early to talk to local social service partners about the work they’re doing in the community and enjoy light refreshments.

Library After Dark

Main Library, Friday October 25, 7-8pm

What happens in the library after all the patrons leave, the lights are turned off, and the doors are locked? Come walk through our haunted library - if you dare. Full of thrills and chills, and definitely not for the faint of heart. Not suitable for young children.

This month at Main Library

Special Effects Makeup Demonstration: Wednesday October 9, 6:00-7:30pm (Annex Room A)

Liz Conley will demonstrate how to build a prosthetic of a realistic wound. She uses a combination of common household items such as cotton balls, cosmetic liquid latex, and a variety of special effects make-up to produce a convincing gash. Coupled with bruising techniques, the prosthetic will add a haunting touch to zombie costumes or any other costume!

Liz is a self-taught makeup artist, and has spent several years developing her craft. She has been part of the haunted house industry and has had small roles in short films. Liz continues to participate in costume contests, themed birthday parties, and zombie walk food drives.
