Good afternoon library friends,

Fall, with its chilly air and shortening days, has always seemed like a good time for a good book, a good conversation, or a movie night. I love finding all of those things at the library. We have some great opportunities to learn new things and meet people on our events calendar. If you'd like help picking your next read, check out our Book Match service here:  https://www.crcpl.org/bookmatch/

If you're planning a visit to the Main Library this month, please plan to park on Paint Street or Fifth Street. We're working on the parking lot, so it won't be available for the next several weeks.

We've added a few new services this month. First, we've started tech tutoring again, with social distancing. If you need technology help, click here to make an appointment. Our county Branches will also be creating "take and make" activity kits starting later this month. Each kit will include materials and instructions for a fun craft or other activity. Please contact your local branch for details.

We are continuing with socially distant programs and services in October. For events, some will be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube. While you can watch these any time, the best experience will be during the live video when you can ask questions and we'll answer them in the video. Other events will take place via Zoom. Please be sure to register for these events, so we can send you the Zoom invitation.

Some of our events in September:

Virtual Cooking Class Series: Tuesdays from September 1-October 20 at 4:30pm

Here's the schedule:

October 6: Dinner (kids): Salad in a Bag & Chicken/Cranberry Quesadilla.

October 13: Dessert (adults): 2-Ingredient Ice Cream & Pumpkin Cake Bars.

October 20: Dessert (kids): Take and Make Magical Fruit Salad.*

(*Take and Make: please register at least 24 hours before class so you can pick up your ingredient kit for this class.)

Thank you to the OSU Ross County Extension Office for presenting this class.

Thursday October 8, 6:30-7:30pm: Virtual Novels at Night

Join us virtually for this month's Book Club meeting. We'll be discussing Linda Holmes' Evvie Drake Starts Over. Copies of the book are available from the Ohio Digital Library (Libby) as an eBook and eAudiobook. There will also be copies to pick up at Northside Branch and Main Library. As always, please feel free to attend even if you have not read the book.

You must register for this event. When you register, you will receive a link to the Zoom meeting.

Friday October 9, 16, 23, and 30 7-9:30pm: Drive-in Movie Battle

Our movie battle is moving to the Mt Logan parking lot, and we have a huge new screen to enjoy! Head to our Facebook page the Monday before each movie night to vote for the movie you'd like to watch. Here are some clues about the movies up for your vote:

October 9 (kids): Do you want to watch a creature that loves Reese's Pieces, phones home, and can fly a bike? OR a creature that can't be in the light, can't have water, and absolutely cannot be fed after midnight?

October 16 (adults): Do you want to snap your fingers to a movie about a family that's creepy and kooky OR watch a movie about "the ghost with the most"? Just don't say his name 3 times, and hold onto your Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

October 23 (kids): Do you want to watch three sisters who can smell children running amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck... OR a Roald Dahl book turned into a movie, where you can't tell if it's a nice lady or a witch, and if you're wrong she may turn you into a mouse?

October 30 (adults): Do you have 5 senses, or an extra one? Does it let you see dead people? Is it getting cold in here? OR A movie that knows what scares you? Don't get too close to the TV, because "they're here".

Each movie starts at 7:30pm, but please plan to arrive early to secure your spot in the parking lot at Mt Logan. Your car radio is your sound system for the night, so be ready to tune in to the broadcast. You must remain in your car during the movie.

Thursday October 15, 4pm: Virtual Gardening Class

As the season winds down, it's important to get your outdoor space ready for winter. Ross will be teaching another fall class this month about things you can do now to make your spring garden happy.

Thursday October 15: Preparing for Next Year's Garden. This class will cover garden prep for winter, including transitioning to no till for veggies, and some quick tips on bulbs and flower beds.

Classes will be broadcast on the library Facebook page and our YouTube page. Tune in live and put your questions and photos in the comments! Thank you to the OSU Ross County Extension Office and Master Gardeners for presenting this class.

Wednesday October 21 at noon: Virtual Brown Bag Book Club

Join us virtually for this month's Book Club meeting. We'll be discussing Ruth Hogan's The Keeper of Lost Things. Copies of the book are available from Hoopla as either an eBook or eAudiobook. There will also be copies available to pick up at Northside Branch and Main Library. As always, please feel free to attend even if you have not read the book.

You must register for this event. When you register, you will receive a link to the Zoom meeting.

Please free to contact me with any questions or suggestions about virtual programming. I look forward to seeing you all soon. Take care.
