May is National Barbeque Month

National Barbecue Month in May encourages us to break out our special recipes and get some mouthwatering deliciousness started.

Whether you prefer charcoal, wood, or gas, barbecuing is fundamentally a slow cooking method over indirect heat. While the type of protein and seasonings vary, each part of the country specializes in their own flavors and sauces. From sweet to spicy, techniques range from region to region and state to state. Even the way a place smokes their barbecue can be considered unique!

Pork is the original barbecue meat, but beef, chicken, lamb, and other proteins find their way into barbecue. Some of the best side dishes associated with this time-honored cuisine are coleslaw, macaroni & cheese, and baked beans.

Other things happening in May:

National Orange Juice Day is May 4
On May 4th National Orange Juice Day recognizes America’s most popular breakfast drink. Orange juice holds a large margin over second-place apple juice, too. People have been waking up to a glass of orange juice for many years and enjoying the health benefits it gives them. Enjoy a nice cold glass of orange juice with your breakfast. Which do you prefer – extra pulp or no pulp versions? It can also be used in sweet and savory dishes.

Chocolate Chip Day is May 15

Whether eaten by the handful, or baked into cookies and other desserts, chocolate chips make life a little sweeter. Celebrate Chocolate Chip Day by trying out a new recipe that uses chocolate chips.  The first thing to do is remember that Chocolate Chip Day isn’t just about cookies, it’s about all the things you can include chocolate chips in! Pancakes, muffins, pudding, ice cream, granola bars, pies, these are just a few of the wonderful creations you can add them to.

International Hamburger Day is May 28
There's nothing quite like a juicy burger piled high with all the fixings. Whether you prefer classic beef patties with American cheese, creative Italian-style burgers, or delicious meatless burgers, this is the day for kicking back and enjoying one for a meal.
