Summer Reading has started!

 

Children and teens from birth to age 18 are encouraged to join the Summer Reading Club by picking up a reading log at one of our libraries.  We will have fun activities for all ages all summer long!

 



As of July 5, Tech Tuesday is now Tech Thursday! Summer is here and with that comes vacations. If you need help sharing your vacation photos or loading up your tablet with books for the beach, we can help you. Drop-in tech help will be held at the Main Library from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Thursdays.

A magic show for the whole family!  Registration is not required, but only the first 100 children with an admission ticket will be admitted to this program.  Beginning at 6:30pm on July 10, stop by the Children's Desk for an admission ticket.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Parsippany Library and ADP.
 
 
 
 
  Wild West: Mystery of the Golden Piano

Throughout this absolutely wild adventure story, volunteers from the audience will help us explore the fascinating science behind chemical reactions, combustion, air pressure, inertia and more. Don’t miss this classic action-packed western with ‘notes’ of science!

The Musical History of the 50's -- From Dino to Doo-Wop

Reminisce and listen to the music, the entertainers, and the stories form the era music historians call "the decade of music that changed the world."  Joey G. will take us on a musical journey back to the 1950's, where the musical trends evolved from Big Band to Pop to Rock 'N Roll.

Not sure what to do with the kids during those last two weeks of August?

The Friends of the Parsippany Library have partnered with Mad Science and Dawn Lau Dance Company to offer Parsippany students the opportunity to participate in half-day science and arts camps, with $20 of each registration going back to the Friends of the Parsippany Library.  

Camp will be offered at both the Main Library and Lake Hiawatha locations.  Be sure to choose the information specific to your desired location.  

The Friends will donate this money to the library for the purchase of additional children's programming and materials.

World Cup Fun!

The Teen Advisory Board is hosting an afternoon of World Cup Fun!  Stop by to watch the first semi-final game, play some indoor soccer games, make a craft, enjoy some snacks and predict the World Cup champions for a chance to win a prize!

  A Walk with Galileo
July 16

Grades 6-12
 
Come observe Jupiter just as Galileo did in the early 1600’s. Will you come to the same startling conclusions that rocked the world that he did? After an indoor program and activity we will take our telescopes outside (weather permitting).  The rain date for this program is July 19th.
 
**To ensure a full "planetary parade" is in view when we go outside, this program will run until at least 9:30 pm.**

African Clay Mask Workshop
July 21

Grades 6-12
 
Each teen will make and decorate their own clay mask. Hang your mask on the wall as decoration or give it to someone as a gift. The workshop includes storytelling, the learning of Nigerian greetings,and will include a list of original Adinkra symbols from Ghana from which you can choose to decorate your mask. Additionally, all participants will receive a box in which to take home their work, along with printed instructions for drying and painting.  Registration is required and begins Saturday, July 7.
