WINDOWS IN TIME SOUTHERN OREGON HISTORY LECTURE SERIES 2017

Hot Springs: Sacred Ground, Healing Properties?

Southern Oregon has many mineral springs and hot springs throughout the region, that legends say were a favorite spot for the Native Americans and documented records show were very popular with the European settlers of this region. Hear librarian Amy Blossom share the accounts and stories of many of the hot and mineral baths at August's Windows in Time lecture.

Up Next:  The September Windows in Time lecture will feature Tony Johnson presenting "Southern Pacific's Siskiyou Line: The Later Years" on September 6 and 13 at the Medford and Ashland Libraries.

Poetry Evening at Gold Hill

Experience the fullness of summer in Gold Hill, Rogue Valley's quinttessential River City, with an evening of poetry on Wednesday, August 9 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Gold Hill Library. Share original poems, works by favorite poets, or simply enjoy listening to others read. The event will be followed by a no-host reception at the Historic Gold Hill Hotel.

Digital Download Workshops

Learn how to download library eBooks, audiobooks, TV shows, movies, and music for free with your library card on Thursday, August 10 from 12:30 - 2:30 at the Ashland Library. You'll learn to access the Libby App and Library2Go and Hoopla Services. Participants should come with a basic knowledge of the device (smart phone, tablet, or laptop) they'll be using to access materials. See the full workshop schedule with classes in Medford, Eagle Point, and White City, too.

Solar Eclipse History and Safety with Victoria Leo

On August 21, 2017, after nearly 100 years, a total solar eclipse will occur across North America. Join the Ashland branch library as we prepare for this event with a history and safety lecture about the solar eclipse. Each attendee will also receive a FREE pair of solar eclipse safety glasses provided by the Friends of the Ashland Library! (Program is limited to 85 people due to space).

Author Talk: Debby Bloch with Blue Magic

Local author, Debbie Bloch will discuss her latest book, Blue Magic, on Thursday, August 10 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. at the Ashland Library. Blue Magic is Bloch's second novel, inspired by a performance of Henry IV, Part I at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Her previous work includes a series of nonfiction guides about professional skills, career choices, and the connections between spirituality and work.

Janet Dawson

Author Talk: Mystery Writer Janet Dawson

Janet Dawson has written 12 mystery novels, including Till the Old Men Die, Take a Number, Don't Turn your Back on the Ocean, and Water Signs. Dawson is a longtime member of Mystery Writers of America, serving as MWA NorCal president and chair of the Edgar Allan Poe awards. Learn more about her work on Tuesday, August 8 from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Ashland Library.

Central Point Friends of the Library 

The Central Point Friends of the Library will hold a book sale on the third Friday of each month from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Central Point Library. The books are great, the prices are non-existent, and your donations make a difference for the Central Point Library. Each sale features new or gently-used books, DVDs, and CDs. Donations support library programs, activities, and special collections.
