SYSTEMWIDE VIRTUAL & OUTREACH PROGRAMS

English for Beginners. Monday, June 5, 2023, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
This is a one-hour class for beginning English language learners who have little to no fluency in English. The class is taught online. Basic topics such as greetings, simple conversations, and basic grammar. This is an adult class. The class is held on Zoom. Please email the South Holiday Library to sign up. Register HERE. 

ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
A new session of English lessons in being held this summer. English language tutoring is available one-on-one via ZOOM. 30 minute appointments are offered Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and Friday afternoons. These lessons are intended for students with some prior experience learning English. Lessons are taught in English by a certified teacher. Practice your English-speaking skills in a group on Zoom. This is a fun, casual atmosphere to practice and improve your English. Speakers of all levels are welcome. Toddler Storytime. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 10:15 AM - 10:45 AM
This program is for children ages 1 to 3 and includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy — read, write, sing, talk, play.  While the activities are geared for toddlers, younger and older siblings are welcome to attend. For the summer sessions only, this storytime will take place in the Starkey Ranch Theater except for June 27 & July 25 where it will be held in the Children's Room.  

Museum + Art Series: Painting Workshop. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
In partnership with the Dali Museum's current exhibition Where Ideas Come From: Drawings from The Dalí Museum Collection, join us for the first of five partner programs exploring surrealist themes and Dali's life and work. In this workshop, we will explore an experimental painting technique: decalcomania. Explored by many of the surrealist artists of the early 20th century, decalcomania is a technique that occurs when paint is pressed between two sheets of paper to reveal a unique, abstract image.Participants will learn more about decalcomania and create their own pieces inspired by this surrealist technique. Elementary (K-3) SRC: Giving Tree Drum Circle. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
What better way to kick off our summer reading theme of All Together Now than to join a Giving Tree Drum Circle!?! Instruments will be provided. This event for elementary aged children and their families will be a ticketed event in the theater. Tickets will be available at the library a half-hour prior to the event on a first come, first served basis.  All parties must be present to receive a ticket. 

Baby Storytime. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 10:15 AM - 10:45 AM
This lap-sit program is based on the foundations of early literacy and includes opportunities for reading, singing, talking, and playing.  

Teen Advisory Board + Bingo. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Teens, got a fun idea for a library program? Looking for a way to get involved in your community? The library wants to hear from you! Join us at this special Teen Advisory Board meeting, where we'll also play Bingo together. Important Note: This program is for teens, grades 8-12. Masks are not required, but recommended. Building Confident Kids. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Join us at the library as we discuss ways to help your child form healthy self-esteem. This workshop will be led by area mental health professionals (Joy Davis, LCSW; Kelly Glass, MSW; and Jenn Brischetto, LMHC). Following the presentation, there will be a brief Q&A. Attendees are welcome to bring their children, who will participate in a separate, accompanying activity during the program. Register HERE.

Preschool Storytime. Thursday, June 8, 2023, 10:15 AM - 10:45 AM
This storytime is intended for children (ages 3-5) along with their caregiver. During storytime, they will enjoy stories, songs, and assorted activities. Guardian Ad Litem Information Session. Thursday, June 8, 2023, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Be a Child’s Voice, Change a Child’s Story! There are currently over 1,000 children in Pasco County in the foster care system.  Hundreds of these abused, neglected and abandoned children are still waiting for someone to be their voice.  YOU can make a lifelong difference for a child by becoming a Guardian ad Litem. Art Switcheroo. Thursday, June 8, 2023, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Tweens! Join us for an Art Switcheroo! Every tween will be given their own canvas to start. You will have five minutes to start creating. After 5 minutes, everyone will pass their paintings to the person next to them, and they will work on the new painting for another 5 minutes. We will continue to pass the paintings until everyone has worked on every painting! You will end up leaving with a collaborative art piece that everyone contributed to! Register HERE.

The Junior Master Gardener Program (JMG) is an innovative 4-H youth gardening project. It is modeled after the highly popular Master Gardener Volunteer Program. JMG offers horticulture and environmental science education through fun and creative hands-on activities. Join Earthchild Sarah every week as she teaches the basics of painting and drawing. In June we focus on our summer reading theme "All Together Now" by creating beautiful and intricate mandalas. We will learn about the history and meaning of the mandala, and look at a variety of different styles and designs for inspiration before choosing our medium, preparing our measurements, and going to work on our own mandalas. This is a meditative and relaxing way to create beautiful patterns and intricate designs. Join us for a free chair yoga class with Yoga Alliance certified teacher Diane Fenrich. Yoga is a practice that is thousands of years old, often called "India's gift to the world". Yoga is comprised of 8 limbs, one of which is yoga asana-- the practice which incorporates physical postures. All together, yoga can assist with many health goals. This yoga class is for people who feel more comfortable sitting in a chair than the floor. With regular practice, you can achieve a healthier spine, improved breathing and increased flexibility. At the end of class, we will be doing some meditation to further calm the mind and relax the body. Please bring a bottle of water. A signed liability waiver is required. Qigong — Summer All Together Now. Friday, June 9, 2023, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health practice that uses stretching, slow movements and deep breathing to revitalize mind, body and spirit. It is popular around the world with adults who want to improve their balance, flexibility, posture, and strength. It has been used to help people suffering from anxiety, insomnia, back pain, joint pain, breathing problems, PTSD, arthritis and more. All postures can be done standing up or seated in a chair. Everything can be adapted to individual needs. Classes will be lead by Sarah from Awaken Tai Chi. She has over a decade of experience practicing Qigong, Tai Chi and other forms of combat arts and moving meditation. She enjoys teaching beginners and helping people adapt movements and postures to suit the bodies they live in. Register HERE.

Free Studio Space in the Loft. Friday, June 9, 2023, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Looking for a space to work on your creative projects? Our Loft Makerspace is dedicated to providing access to practice and education of studio arts, crafts, textiles and photo digitization. We offer classes for all ages and encourage the belief that anyone can make art you just have to start! Every Friday we have tables available for artist reservation. Spread out your materials and soak up the atmosphere of our Loft makerspace. Reservations are for six hours (you can come anytime in that window) and our space will host up to four artists at one time. Sign up online or call during library open hours. Ages 16+. We can help with  repairs or assist with new projects. At this time we have materials available to make a reusable bag from a feedbag, corner fabric bookmarks, etc. A volunteer or staff person will be available to assist with sewing machines. Do you have an item of clothing or some other fabric item that needs to be repaired? Are you uncertain if it can be repaired? Do you need to learn a few skills in order to fix a seam, replace a button, or hem pants? Bring your item along and we will discuss how to determine if an item can be fixed instead of tossed. We will work through easy repairs and set up follow up for items that require more time. This class is intended for adults and youth ages 9 and older with a parent/guardian. Registration is required. It is possible to register online, by phone 813-929-1214, or in person (at a Service Desk). Foundry Waivers and Safety Playbook need to be completed for all participants.
