SYSTEMWIDE VIRTUAL & OUTREACH PROGRAMS

English for Beginners. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.
This is a one-hour class for beginning English language learners who have little to no fluency in English.
The class is taught online. Basic topics such as greetings, simple conversations, and basic grammar.
This is an adult class. The class is held on Zoom. Please email the South Holiday Library to sign up.

ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages. Friday, June 2, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.
A new session of English lessons in being held this summer. English language tutoring is available one-on-one via ZOOM. 30-minute appointments are offered Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and Friday afternoons. These lessons are intended for students with some prior experience learning English. Lessons are taught in English by a certified teacher. A group class for beginning speakers is offered on Monday mornings on Zoom. Registration required. Please call or email the South Holiday library to sign up and for more information.

Paint Along: Sunset Through a Field. Sunday, May 28, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.
Watercolor can be a challenging and rewarding medium. Join Sarah in a practical demonstration as she guides the class through the fundamentals of creating a successful watercolor piece by painting a landscape. Customize your colors to create something unique inside the framework of a paint along class that sets you up for success. Beginner to intermediate artists will enjoy this tutorial.
All materials are provided. Questions are welcome.

Teen Open Studio. Sunday, May 28, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.
What has free art supplies and offers you a welcoming space to create? That's right! You guessed it, Teen Open Studio. While at this self-guided program, we encourage you to express yourself in any number of ways. Walk-ins are welcome at any time during this open studio.

Toddler Storytime (Session 1). Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 10: 15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m.
This program is for children ages 1 to 3 and includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play. 
The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first serve.

Toddler Storytime (Session 2). Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 11:00 a.m. — 11:45 a.m.
This program is identical to the storytime at 11:00 am and is for children ages 1 to 3. It includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play. 
The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first serve.

Baby Storytime. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m.
This lap-sit program is meant to instill the love of reading in children at an early age. It is suitable for babies up to 1-year-old and their caregiver(s). Registration is no longer required for this program.

Preschool Storytime. Thursday, June 1, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m.
This storytime is recommended for children (ages 3-5) along with their caregiver. Registration begins two weeks prior to the program.
Important Note: Registration is required for each child in attendance.

Drop in for some Lego building fun! Bring a friend or family member. Try some of our challenges or just use our Lego blocks to build your own creations.

Photo Scanning by Appointment. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m.
Are you interested in digitizing your family photos? Are you wondering what's on those negatives in the closet shoe box?
Tuesday mornings we will have our Loft doors open for patrons who already know how to use our photo scanners. If you're just getting started, please make an appointment for a Tuesday afternoon instead. This is when a team member can be made available to assist.

Art of Adulting: Working with Fabric. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 2:30 p.m. — 4:30 p.m.
Teens are invited for this program that will teach some basics that include:
- how to fold a fitted sheet
- how to do a basic hand stitch for holes in your clothes
-  a quickstart lesson on using a sewing machine
You'll also get to use your art skills to decorate a tea towel!
Snacks are at 2:30 and the program will begin at 3PM. This is for teens in grades 8-12, and registration is required.

Family Game Night. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 5:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.
Join us on the last Tuesday of the month for Family Game Night. The whole family can choose a board/card game and play inside the library.

Learn to Paint and Draw (Better): Found Object. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m.
Join Earthchild Sarah every week as she teaches the basics of painting and drawing. Complete beginners to intermediate artists can come get expert guidance from someone who has been in the arts for nearly four decades.
In May, we will develop our understanding of concept, storytelling through images and planning a work of art. Sarah will guide the class though developing their own creative process. We will be learning how to draw an object using an artist's view finder, how to choose the best angle, how to use color choice and lighting to tell the story, etc. Students will be free to decide which media they want to use for their final piece.
Questions are welcome, community is encouraged. Materials are provided. If you register and are unable to make it, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance to be considerate of others.

Come into the Loft to work on a passive craft or art project. All supplies are provided. The Loft will be open until 5pm for your convenience.

Qigong - Summer All Together Now. Thursday, June 1, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health practice that uses stretching, slow movements and deep breathing to revitalize mind, body, and spirit.
Classes will be led by Sarah from Awaken Tai Chi. She has over a decade of experience practicing Qigong, Tai Chi and other forms of combat arts and moving meditation. She enjoys teaching beginners and helping people adapt movements and postures to suit the bodies they live in.

Free Studio Space in the Loft. Friday, June 2, 2023, 12:00 p.m. — 5:00 p.m.
Looking for a space to work on your creative projects? Our Loft Makerspace is dedicated to providing access to practice and education of studio arts, crafts, textiles, and photo digitization. We offer classes for all ages and encourage the belief that anyone can make art you just have to start! Every Friday we have tables available for artist reservation. Spread out your materials and soak up the atmosphere of our Loft makerspace. Reservations are for six hours (you can come anytime in that window), and our space will host up to four artists at one time. Sign up online or call during library open hours. Ages 16+

Join our volunteer, Cassie, to make a star lantern. After assembling the paper lantern participants will paint their creations.

Participants will be able to work on their own projects related to sewing, weaving, knitting, crocheting, etc. In general participants will need to bring their own materials. We can help with repairs or assist with new projects.
At this time, we have materials available to make a reusable bag from a feedbag, corner fabric bookmarks, etc. A volunteer or staff person will be available to assist with sewing machines. This activity is intended for ages 18 years & older or ages 9 years & older with a parent or guardian.

Flex your creativity muscles! Join us as we work together to design a little free library that will be put up in our community. We will be designing and painting the little free library. We will add more sessions to paint it if we are unable to complete it on the first night.
