SYSTEMWIDE VIRTUAL & OUTREACH PROGRAMS  

Novels on Tap. Sunday, May 21, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. 
Calling all adults (21 and older)! Spend your Sunday afternoon with us at the Wicked Pour, a taproom located in Odessa. There we'll be hosting our book club, Novels on Tap. This month’s selection is Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. Registration is required. Register HERE.

English for Beginners. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. 
This is a one-hour class for beginning English language learners who have little to no fluency in English. The class is taught online. Basic topics such as greetings, simple conversations, and basic grammar. This is an adult class. The class is held on Zoom. Please email the South Holiday Library to sign up. Virtual Book Club-Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 5:00 p.m. — 6:00 p.m. 
Join Michal on Zoom to discuss Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou. Please pick up your book at the senior center on Monday or Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., or at the New River Library.  This title is also available on Cloud Library as an e-book and an e-audiobook. English Conversation Group. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. 
Practice your English-speaking skills in a group on Zoom. This is a fun, casual atmosphere to practice and improve your English. Speakers of all levels are welcome. Horror Book Club. Thursday, May 25, 2023, 6:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m. 
Join us for the next meeting of the Horror Book Club! The group will meet virtually on Thursday, May 25th. This book club will read and discuss horror books both contemporary and classic and primarily use Hoopla Digital for digital copies of the books. Due to the nature of the content, this book club will be for adults only. For May's meeting, we will read Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman. Registration is required. Register HERE.

Visit the Starkey Ranch Theatre Library Cultural Center lobby to view an exhibit of original photography from members of the Chasco Camera Club.

Jewelry-Making: Earrings and Necklace Set. Sunday, May 21, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. 
In this jewelry making class, we'll be making some beautiful drop earrings with a matching necklace. All materials will be provided free of charge. This class is for adults, and registration is required. Register HERE.

Creative Relaxation & Stress Management. Monday, May 22, 2023, 11:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. 

Join us in this new monthly class for adults that will include relaxation meditations followed by art and journaling activities to help you reduce stress. This month, we will use guided imagery and an art exercise to discuss the useful tool of art journaling. No artistic talent required! Registration is required. Register HERE.

Toddler Storytime (Session 1). Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m. 

This program is for children ages 1 to 3 and includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play. The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first served. Children must be present to obtain a ticket.  

Toddler Storytime (Session 2). Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 11:00 a.m. — 11:45 a.m. 
This program is identical to the storytime at 10:15 am and is for children ages 1 to 3. It includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy — read, write, sing, talk, play.  The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first served.  

After School Gaming. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 3:30 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. 
Game with us after school! Video and tabletop games will be available. 

Baby Storytime. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m. 

This lap-sit program is based on the foundations of early literacy and includes opportunities for reading, singing, talking, and playing. Registration is required. 

Once Upon A STEM: Three Little Pigs. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 4:30 p.m. — 5:30 p.m. 
Could the wolf really have blown down the pigs homes? Using science and engineering skills, this month we will discover the power of wind! This program is for children in Grades K-3 and registration is required.  Register HERE.

DIY Pressed Flower Lanterns. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 6:00 p.m. — 7:30 PM 
Create your own pressed flower lantern! All supplies will be provided. Ages 18+. Register HERE.

Preschool Storytime. Thursday, May 25, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m. 
This storytime is intended for children (ages 3-5) along with their caregiver. During storytime, they will enjoy stories, songs, and assorted activities. Registration begins two weeks prior to the program. Registration is required. Register HERE.

Meet the Artists: Chasco Camera Club Reception. Thursday, May 25, 2023, 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m. 
Join us for a "meet the artist" art reception for the Chasco Camera Club! Meet the artists 'behind the lens' of the photographs on display, chat with them about their work, and enjoy light refreshments. All artwork will be for sale — artists can be contacted directly for purchase inquiries.

Join us for tons of fun at Free Play Friday!  This program will include crafts and play opportunities for children ages 2 to 4 years.   

Kids Open Studio: Painting. Saturday, May 27, 2023, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM & 11:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. 
Join us the last Saturday of every month for Painting Open Studio! You may register for 1 of 2 sessions: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wet paintings can be picked up after the program. We will supply all materials — all you have to do is bring your creativity -- and be sure to wear clothing you don't mind getting a little messy! Open to all ages. Registration is required. Adult Craft: Perler Bead Keychains. Saturday, May 27, 2023, 1:30 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. 
Join us for an afternoon craft! We'll be making cute perler bead keychains. Make one from a pattern or create something completely your own! We will iron your design and provide a keychain ring to put it on. Materials will be provided free of charge. This event is for adults, and registration is required. SAGES Theatre Event: Memory Lane. Saturday, May 27, 2023, 2:00 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. 
Memory Lane is a delightful collection of true-to-life stories that show how caregivers, plus their team of helpers, are the heroes in life’s journey. Laugh at funny moments while savoring the satisfaction when challenges are met with success in this touching stroll down life's memory lane. Open to the public, free admission. Family friendly and handicap accessible. Play runs 60 minutes, followed by 30-minute Q&A with our Community Partners. Reservations for general seating can be made at www.sagestheater.org and clicking on the reservation link at the top of the Home Page to select this show. Doors will open at 1:00 pm for guests with reservations. Walk-ins will be seated in any open seats at 1:45 pm. 

The Bone Chilling Book Club: Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts. Saturday, May 27, 2023, 3:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. 
Join the Bone Chilling Book Club!  A little bit of mystery, a dash of thrills, perhaps some suspense, and sometimes some ghostly appearances.  You never know what could be next!  This month we will discuss the book Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia. This book is available as an e-book or audiobook via Hoopla.

Gentle chair-based stretches done with meditative awareness (mindfulness). The physical practices are accessible for most body types, mindful practices help reduce stress and improve well-being.

Stop by the library to get information about Gulf Coast JFCS's CHATS program. This is a nonprofit organization seeking both volunteers and people in need of this free program focused on matching seniors with a volunteer caller to enjoy a friendly weekly telephone chat. 

Learn to Paint and Draw (Better): Found Object. Tuesday, May 23, 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m.  
In May we will develop our understanding of concept, storytelling through images and planning a work of art. Sarah will guide the class though developing their own creative process. We will be learning how to draw an object using an artist's view finder, how to choose the best angle, how to use color choice and lighting to tell the story, etc. Students will be free to decide which media they want to use for their final piece. Questions are welcome, community is encouraged. Materials are provided. If you register and are unable to make it, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance to be considerate of others. Looking for a space to work on your creative projects? Our Loft Makerspace is dedicated to providing access to practice and education of studio arts, crafts, textiles and photo digitization. We offer classes for all ages and encourage the belief that anyone can make art, you just have to start! Every Friday we have tables available for artist reservation. Spread out your materials and soak up the atmosphere of our Loft Makerspace. Reservations are for six hours (you can come anytime in that window) and our space will host up to four artists at one time. Sign up online or call during library open hours. Ages 16+. Join our teacher, Dianne Orcher, for Chair Yoga. This yoga class is beginner-friendly, and taught in seated and standing positions using a chair as a prop. Join our volunteers for chess. This club is open to all ages and abilities. Are you interested in learning to play? Our volunteers can teach you. Already know how, but need someone to play against? Corinne's Crafts. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 4:00 p.m. — 5:30 p.m. 
Join our volunteer, Corinne, to make paper beads. Amazing beads can be made from a variety of papers including craft paper, newspaper, and old magazines. Make enough for your own necklace, bracelet or other project. All materials will be provided. This class is for adults and youth aged 9 years and older. Once the beads are dry you can use them to make keychains, bracelets, etc. Sign up for the Wed, May 17, Fabric Arts Open Build to make your creations here or use your beads at home. Participants will be able to work on their own projects related to sewing, weaving, knitting, crocheting, etc. In general, participants will need to bring their own materials. We can help with repairs or assist with new projects. At this time, we have materials available to make a reusable bag from a feedbag, corner fabric bookmarks, etc. A volunteer or staff person will be available to assist with sewing machines. Land O' Lakes Book Club. Thursday, May 25, 2023, 10:30 a.m. — 11:30 a.m. 
This month we will be discussing The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore. This story takes place in 1860 and is about a woman who is wrongfully committed to an asylum by her husband. As she sees the horrors of the conditions the hospital is kept in, she realizes that there are other rationally sane women that have been wrongfully committed like her.  No one is willing to fight for their freedom, and disenfranchised both by gender and the stigma of their supposed madness, they cannot possibly fight for themselves. But Elizabeth discovers that the merit of losing everything is that you then have nothing to lose. Copies are available for pickup at the Land O Lakes library. Ebook and Audiobook options are available on Hoopla and CloudLibrary.

Join us for a special Summer Reading Author Fair at the Land O Lakes library! We will have authors for various audiences and genres. Each author will have a table in one of our multipurpose rooms, where they can sign copies of their books. We will also have certain authors doing a 10-20 min presentation or reading in the meeting room throughout our time. We will have a 30-min break for authors and volunteers between 12-12:30.
