Dade City Mystery Book Club - The Cellist. Tuesday, May 2, 2:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. 

Join Michal at the Dade City Senior Center for the Mystery Book Club to discuss The Cellist by Daniel Silva. Please pick up your book at the Senior Center on Monday or Wednesday between 10 AM and 2:30 PM. or at the New River Library. The book is also available as an e-book and e-audiobook on Hoopla.

Teen Open Studio. Sunday, April 30, 2:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. 

What has free art supplies and offers you a welcoming space to create? That's right! You guessed it, Teen Open Studio. While at this self-guided program, we encourage you to express yourself in any number of ways. Walk-ins are welcome at any time during this open studio. Important note: This program is for teens, grades 8-12. Masks are recommended, but not required. 

  

Knit Happens! Yarn Arts Circle. Monday, May 1, 10:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. 

Join us for our bi-weekly open needlework circle! All portable fabric arts are welcome. Join us any time from 10 am to 12 am and stay as long as you like. This is a chance to bring your own project and meet with others to chat about your creations, so some prior experience is recommended. Basic supplies will be available to start projects. This group is intended for ages 16 and older. Coffee and tea will be provided! 

 

Toddler Storytime (Session 1). Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 10: 15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m. 
This program is for children ages 1 to 3 and includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play.   

The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first serve. 

 

Toddler Storytime (Session 2). Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 11:00 a.m. — 11:45 a.m. 
This program is identical to the storytime at 11:00 am and is for children ages 1 to 3. It includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play.   

The room will be limited to 20 children per session. Please stop at the Service Desk upon arrival to get a ticket to for the session of your choosing. Tickets are available day of and are first come, first serve. 

 

After School Gaming. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 3:30 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. 
Game with us after school! Video and tabletop games will be available. 

 

Baby Storytime. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m. 
This lap-sit program is meant to instill the love of reading in children at an early age. It is suitable for babies up to 1-year-old and their caregiver(s). Registration is no longer required for this program. 

 

Level Up! Wednesday, May 3, 3:45 p.m. — 5:00 p.m. 

Bring your friends and play games at the library!  This program for students in K-5 will include video, card, and board games. Learn something new or play an old favorite.   

 
Preschool Storytime. Thursday, May 4, 2023, 10:15 a.m. — 10:45 a.m.  

This storytime is recommended for children (ages 3-5) along with their caregiver. Registration begins two weeks prior to the program. Important Note: Registration is required for each child in attendance.  Masks are recommended but not required. Register HERE. 

 

Gulf Coast JFCS C.H.A.T.S. Seminar. Thursday, May 4, 10:30 a.m. — 11:30 a.m. 

Learn more about the CHATS Program provided by Gulf Coast Jewish Family Community Services (JFCS)! The CHATS Program (Companionship, Help, & Access by Telephone for Seniors) matches seniors with a volunteer caller to enjoy a friendly weekly telephone chat. May the Fourth Be With You! Join us for Star Wars Night to enjoy different Star Wars themed activities like: 

Baby Yoda Lego Kit building, Star Wars puzzles & crafts, and "The Empire Strikes Back" on the big screen...

We will be offering family-friendly Star Wars themed crafts and puzzles for families of younger children. Join us in the Heron room for Star Wars cartoons, coloring pages, perler bead figures and more!

Make a one-on-one appointment for Tech Help with a Librarian! Get help with: 
setting up library apps (Libby, Cloud Library, Hoopla) on your mobile device/computer, resumé writing, setting up an email account, navigating or using a new mobile device/computer, navigating the library website, resources, or catalog, printing/scanning/copying at the library, & more!

PBS presents Literacy for Families. Friday, May 5, 11:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. 

Join us in a community partnership with PBS Kids and discover a variety of pre-reading/reading/language-based games, crafts, and other suggestions that promote literacy. This program is designed for families and their children ages 3 to 5 years.  Registration is required for each family. A family is considered parent/guardian plus one or two children. Kids Lego Open Build. Saturday, May 6, 10:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. 

Drop in for some Lego building fun! Bring a friend or family member. Try some of our challenges, or just use our Lego blocks to build your own creations. 

 

Sewing for Beginners. Saturday, May 6, 10:30 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. 

Join us as we make a sunglasses sleeve! All materials will be provided. Beginning sewers will practice using pins, sewing on a machine, ironing, and more. This class is for ages 9 years and older, including adults. Register HERE.

Learn to Paint and Draw (Better): Found Object. Tuesday, May 2, 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m. 

In May we will develop our understanding of concept, storytelling through images and planning a work of art. Sarah will guide the class though developing their own creative process. We will be learning how to draw an object using an artist's view finder, how to choose the best angle, how to use color choice and lighting to tell the story, etc. Students will be free to decide which media they want to use for their final piece.  

Questions are welcome, community is encouraged. Materials are provided. If you register and are unable to make it, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance to be considerate of others.

Looking for a space to work on your creative projects? Our Loft Makerspace is dedicated to providing access to practice and education of studio arts, crafts, textiles, and photo digitization. We offer classes for all ages and encourage the belief that anyone can make art you just have to start! Every Friday we have tables available for artist reservation. Spread out your materials and soak up the atmosphere of our Loft makerspace. Reservations are for six hours (you can come anytime in that window), and our space will host up to four artists at one time. Sign up online or call during library open hours. Ages 23 and up. Join our volunteers for chess. This club is open to all ages and abilities. Are you interested in learning to play? Our volunteers can teach you. Already know how but need someone to play against? Join our volunteer, Margarita. Participants will need to have some previous crochet experience. This is a time to bring your own project and meet with others who enjoy crocheting.

Participants will be able to work on their own projects related to sewing, weaving, knitting, crocheting, etc. In general, patrons will need to bring their own materials. At this time, we have materials available to make a reusable bag from a feedbag and corner fabric bookmarks. A volunteer or staff person will be available to assist with sewing machines. This activity is intended for ages 18 years & older or ages 9-17 years with a parent or guardian. All Makerspace programs require completed safety and waiver forms. Master Gardener: Pollinators. Wednesday, May 3, 6:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m. 

Join us to talk about pollinators with a guest speaker this month. We will be discussing the importance of pollinators, plants to attract pollinators, and how you can protect this important part of nature. Register HERE.

This class is designed for patrons that were unable to attend the first class of the month. Due to the popularity of this class, we have created a class to allow new participants a chance to enjoy the class. Attire: Comfortable exercise clothing. Accessories: Large beach towel or yoga mat. Teen Gaming Extravaganza for 13-18 years old!  We'll have Mario Karts and our Animal Crossing Library Island out to play. (If you have an Animal Crossing Switch game, feel free to bring it with you to visit the library island, but it's Not required.)
