SYSTEMWIDE VIRTUAL & OUTREACH PROGRAMS 

English for Beginners. Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. 
This is a one-hour class for beginning English language learners who have little to no fluency in English. 

The class is taught online. Basic topics such as greetings, simple conversations, and basic grammar.  

This is an adult class. The class is held on Zoom.

Join us in this new monthly class for adults that will include relaxation meditations followed by art and journaling activities to help you reduce stress. This month after meditating, we will create and/or color meaningful mandalas. No artistic talent required!

This program is for children ages 1 to 3 and includes stories, songs, and activities based on the foundations of early literacy - read, write, sing, talk, play.

Join us the last Saturday of every month for Painting Open Studio! You may register for 1 of 2 sessions: 10 a.m. —11 a.m. or 11 a.m. — 12 p.m. Wet paintings can be picked up after the program. We will supply all materials — all you have to do is bring your creativity — and be sure to wear clothing you don't mind getting a little messy! Open to all ages.

D&D: Ask a Dungeon Master for Teens. Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 2:30 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. 

Do you want to know more about this popular tabletop RPG (role-playing game) and others like it? Come and chat with a DM (Dungeon Master) and learn some of the basics of this style of gaming. You'll even get a chance to create your own D20 Dice Cage Keychain! This program is for teens in grades 8-12. Registration is required.

Learn to Paint and Draw (Better): Color. Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m. 

Join Earthchild Sarah every week as she teaches the basics of painting and drawing.  April is all about color. We will be working towards and impressionist painting. Learn how the color wheel works, why it's not the full story, how to mix paint, how to build color in layers and more. Complete beginners to intermediate artists can come get expert guidance from someone who has been in the arts for nearly four decades. Learn how to improve your technique in watercolor, acrylics, pastels, graphite, charcoal, mixed media and more. We also cover the fundamentals of drawing such as composition, color, proportions, shading, texture etc.

Free Studio Space in the Loft. Friday, April 28, 2023, 10:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. 
Looking for a space to work on your creative projects? Our Loft Makerspace is dedicated to providing access to practice and education of studio arts, crafts, textiles, and photo digitization. We offer classes for all ages and encourage the belief that anyone can make art you just have to start! Every Friday we have tables available for artist reservation. Spread out your materials and soak up the atmosphere of our Loft makerspace. Reservations are for six hours (you can come anytime in that window), and our space will host up to four artists at one time. Sign up online or call during library open hours. Ages 23 and up.

Join our woodworking volunteer, Chip, to learn how to make wooden toys. Foundry Waiver and Safety forms are required. Join our volunteers for chess. This club is open to all ages and abilities. Are you interested in learning to play? Our volunteers can teach you. Already know how but need someone to play against? Join us on Tuesday evenings in the Adult Multipurpose Room C from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Chess sets are provided, or you are welcome to bring your own.

This lap-sit program is meant to instill the love of reading in children at an early age. It is suitable for babies up to 1-year-old and their caregiver(s). 

 

Fabric Arts Open Build. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, 4:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m. 

Participants will be able to work on their own projects related to sewing, weaving, knitting, crocheting, etc. In general, patrons will need to bring their own materials. At this time, we have materials available to make a reusable bag from a feedbag and corner fabric bookmarks. A volunteer or staff person will be available to assist with sewing machines. This activity is intended for ages 18 years & older or ages 9-17 years with a parent or guardian. All Makerspace programs require completed safety and waiver forms. This month we will be discussing Beautiful Country: A Memoir of an Undocumented Childhood by Julie Qian Wang. It is an incandescent and heartrending memoir about Qian Julie Wang's five years of living undocumented after immigrating with her parents from China to New York City in 1994. Copies are available for pick up at the Land O Lakes library.

Yoga for Stress Relief. Thursday, April 27, 2023, 4:30 p.m. — 5:30 p.m. 

This class is designed for patrons that were unable to attend the first class of the month. Due to the popularity of this class, we have created a class to allow new participants a chance to enjoy the class. Attire: Comfortable exercise clothing. Accessories: Large beach towel or yoga mat. Join our volunteer Lauren to make a patchwork scarf or windsock. This will be a hand sewing project. The class is intended for ages 9 years and older. Registration is required and will open 2 weeks before the event. Foundry waiver and safety forms are required for all makerspace programs.

Introduction to Tools for Jr Woodworkers. Saturday, April 29, 2023, 1:00 p.m. — 2:00 p.m. 

This activity is intended for ages 9-16 years. Join our Volunteer Philip as we explore the contents of an old handmade tool chest. There will be demonstrations and hands-on activities.  Youth will learn about some tools they have not yet used in other junior classes. All Makerspace activities require completed safety & waiver forms. These can be acquired at the Service Desk or online at pascolibraries.org/makerspaces/the-foundry/. Please review and comply with all safety protocols. Closed toe shoes are required.
