Dolly Parton Imagination Library Offered at Rodman

Since launching in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has become the preeminent early childhood book gifting program in the world. The flagship program of The Dollywood Foundation has mailed well over 100 million free books in Australia, Canada, The Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom and the United States. The Imagination Library mails more than 1.4 million high-quality, age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age five. Dolly envisioned creating a lifelong love of reading, inspiring them to dream. The impact of the program has been widely researched and results suggest positive increases in key early childhood literacy metrics. Penguin Random House is the exclusive publisher for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

As a participant in this gifting program, Rodman Public Library is partnering with the Early Childhood Education Alliance and Greater Alliance Foundation to make this available to children within the 44601 zip code area. Boy and his dog

Tales for Tails

Rodman Public Library offers children the chance to try their reading skills on local therapy dogs when the program resumes on every second Saturday beginning September 14. These specially trained dogs will “listen” to stories in the Children’s Program Room at the Main Library.

All dogs that will be in attendance are members of Therapy Dogs International and the “Paws and Reflect” Pet Therapy group of Alliance Community Hospital. Studies have shown that children can become better readers when they regularly read aloud to dogs. An animal reading companion provides a relaxing, stress-free and non-judgmental “listening partner” for a beginning or struggling reader.

The program will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Fifteen minute time slots are available. Patrons may sign up in advance for a preferred time slot. Please note there will be no Tales for Tails offered in the month of December. Please check our online calendar for dates at http://rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup/Calendar. For more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.
