Pillowcase Project

RPL Hosts Kids Pillowcase Project with American Red Cross

Children, ages 5 to 12, will decorate their own pillowcase and learn how make an emergency preparedness kit with the American Red Cross. This event takes place on Thursday, August 15, at 2 p.m., in the Main Auditorium with a limit of 30 participants. Registration is needed.

Pillowcases and supplies will be furnished. For more information, or to register, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223 or register online. This program is presented by the American Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Team.

"Chapter Chat" Children's Book Club

Chapter Chat Book Club is for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. The next meeting is Wednesday, August 14, at 4:15 p.m. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

August’s book is Bob, by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead. Registration is required for a four-week checkout of a selected title one month in advance.

Ice Cream Storytime with Hotpots

Children, ages 3-12, are invited to Rodman Branch Library for an Ice Cream Storytime on Wednesday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m., or Saturday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m.

A story will be read first at the library, then children and their guardian will proceed to Hot Pots to paint a ceramic ice cream bowl and spoon. Snacks will be offered.

The cost is $10.00, payable to Hot Pots before the event. Registration is required and can be made at https://hotpotspottery.com/ or by phone at 330-823-3333.

Movie ticket

Family Movie Night

Families are invited to see an animated movie, “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” on Wednesday, August 21, at 6:00 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium.

In a world where people collect strange characters to do battle, a young man partners with a wise-cracking, squirrel-like character who is a detective, to help him find his mysteriously missing father.

No registration is needed. Rated PG. Call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223, for more information.

Library Closings in August

Rodman Public Library will be CLOSED Saturday, August 10 for the Carnation Festival Grand Parade.


Rodman Main and Branch Libraries will be closed Friday, August 30, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for a Staff In-Service Meeting. Both libraries will resume normal library hours beginning at 1:00 p.m. For more information, call 330-821-2665.

Ongoing Kids' Programs

Ongoing Programs at Rodman Public Library

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

 

Wee Read Main Library, ages birth through two years - Meets at the Main Library every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Wee Read introduces children to books, fingerplays and music incorporating the six early learning skills.

Storytime Main Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Main Library every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Storytime Branch Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Branch Library every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Chapter Chat now combines the individual Boys and Girls Clubs into one club for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 4:15 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room. Play Group allows children to make friends, play, and share stories on every third or fourth Saturday in the Children’s Program Room from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This play group is designed for children to learn, socialize, and explore through play. It is aimed for birth to kindergarten ages with an adult caregiver, but all are welcome. No registration is needed.

Tales for Tails - From January through May, meets the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the Main Children's Program Room. Children try their reading skills on local therapy dogs that will "listen" to stories. Dogs in attendance are members of Therapy Dogs International and the "Paws and Reflect" Pet Therapy group of Alliance Community Hospital. Sign up in advance. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tween Council is open to enthusiastic 4th to 6th graders who want to make a difference in the library. Tweens will meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:15 p.m. to share ideas for upcoming programs, current trends, and what they and their peers are reading. Tween Council will meet in the Children’s Program Room and no registration is needed.
