Art Gala Concludes Summer Art Experience

Family and friends are invited to join in the celebration as the Rodman Public Library Children’s Department wraps up its Summer Art Experience on Saturday, July 20, with an Art Gala from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children, ages 6-13, have been working with local art instructors during June and July, creating a wide variety of art pieces.

The Art Gala will be open to the public. Artwork will be on display in the Main Auditorium, Gallery, and Children’s Program Room. Refreshments will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a continuous slide show presentation in the Program Room of photographs taken during the art sessions.

This program was funded by the Kiwanis Club of Alliance, Alliance Quota Club, Alliance Rotary Club and Hatherill Insurance Agency, Inc. For more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Makey Makey kit

Makey Makey for Kids

Kids, have fun at Rodman Library on Monday, July 29, with Makey Makey®! Using a computer and the Internet, make everyday objects do extraordinary things. Craft and code by designing your own controller using playdough or pencils. Make musical circuits with fruit and liquids… and more… without any previous experience.

The program is open to ages 6-12, and begins at 6 p.m., in the auditorium. Limit to 25 participants. Registration is needed. To register, or for more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

"Chapter Chat" Children's Book Club

Wonder by PalacioChapter Chat Book Club is for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 10, at 4:15 p.m. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

July’s book is Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. Registration is required for a four-week checkout of a selected title one month in advance.

Family Movie Night

Movie popcornFamilies are invited to see an animated movie, Missing Link, on Wednesday, July 24, at 6:00 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium.

A Sasquatch hires a charming English investigator of monsters and myths to help him find his relatives, the Yetis, in the Himalayas. Along with a friend, the trio of adventurers set out to prove the existence of these legendary beings.

No registration is needed. Rated PG. Call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223, for more information.

Peacock

Peacock Storytime with Hot Pots

Children, ages 3-12, are invited to Rodman Branch Library for a Peacock Storytime on Wednesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m., or Saturday, July 20, at 11:00 a.m.

A story will be read first at the library, then children and their guardian will proceed to Hot Pots to paint a ceramic peacock figurine. Snacks will be offered. The cost is $10.00, payable to Hot Pots before the event. Registration is required and can be made at https://hotpotspottery.com/ or by phone at 330-823-3333.

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

 

Wee Read Main Library, ages birth through two years - Meets at the Main Library every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Wee Read introduces children to books, fingerplays and music incorporating the six early learning skills.

Storytime Main Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Main Library every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Storytime Branch Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Branch Library every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Chapter Chat now combines the individual Boys and Girls Clubs into one club for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 4:15 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required for a four-week checkout of a selected title one month in advance. To register, or for more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Play Group allows children to make friends, play, and share stories on every third or fourth Saturday in the Children’s Program Room from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This play group is designed for children to learn, socialize, and explore through play. It is aimed for birth to kindergarten ages with an adult caregiver, but all are welcome. No registration is needed.

Tales for Tails - From January through May, meets the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the Main Children's Program Room. Children try their reading skills on local therapy dogs that will "listen" to stories. Dogs in attendance are members of Therapy Dogs International and the "Paws and Reflect" Pet Therapy group of Alliance Community Hospital. Sign up in advance. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tween Council is open to enthusiastic 4th to 6th graders who want to make a difference in the library. Tweens will meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:15 p.m. to share ideas for upcoming programs, current trends, and what they and their peers are reading. Tween Council will meet in the Children’s Program Room and no registration is needed.
