Libraries Strengthen Their Communities: Celebrate National Library Week
April 7-13 is National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities. beginning on Sunday, April 7, Rodman Public Library will kick off a “Library Card Drive.” Anyone who renews an expired card (or expiring within a month) or signs up for a new card is eligible to be entered into a prize drawing.

UMU Offers Financial Literacy Classes at RPL
University of Mount Union finance majors in partnership with the United Way of Greater Stark County are offering a four-part financial literacy course at Rodman Library in the auditorium. Beginning in April on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m., courses include Budgeting, April 2; Credit, April 10; Education, April 17 and Retirement, April 24.
A drawing for a $50 gift card will be held at the end of each course. A drawing for a $400 cash prize will be held at the end of course four (must attend all courses to be entered to win the cash drawing). These courses are free and open to the public. Rock Salt and Nails Acoustic Band Concert
Join us for a fun afternoon of music at Rodman Public Library as the Rock Salt and Nails Acoustic Band (RSN) entertains with a mix of the blues, bluegrass, and ballads. Jim Dutter of Louisville, Keith McMahon of Homeworth and Priscilla Roggenkamp of Alliance will perform original and cover tunes from their new CD, “Time Stands Still,” as well as other band favorites. The performance runs from 2 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, in Rodman Main Auditorium, and is suitable for all ages.
This event is free and open to the public, supported by the Friends of Rodman Library. No registration is needed.

Rodman Library Hosts Author Tim Carroll
Akron native Tim Carroll, author of World War II Akron, will be speaking on Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m., in Rodman Library Auditorium. He will tell the stories of the men who served and who died in World War II from Summit County. Carroll will share over 100 rare photographs that contain a collection of blimp photos. Other topics covered include the Dogs for Defense program, Congressional Medal of Honor winners, the Boy Scout draft, the fathers draft and a thorough history of what life was like in Ohio during World War II.
Carroll is a graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in history and a master’s degree in education. His grandfathers, John Ward and John Carroll, were drafted prior to Pearl Harbor and served three years in the Pacific. He began researching World War II events after he started reading his grandfather Carroll’s war letters. His research ultimately led him to write World War II Akron.

The Alliance Amateur Radio Club will present The History of Amateur Radio on Monday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of Rodman Public Library. The presentation features the concepts and functions of amateur radio and will be presented by Ron Rittenhouse, president of the Alliance Amateur Radio Club. The program is sponsored by the Alliance Historical Society.

Evening Book Discussion Group
Are you a book lover? Are you interested in meeting other book lovers to compare notes and have a lively discussion? Join us at the evening book discussion group Monday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m., in Rodman Public Library’s Conference Room. Wish You Well, by David Baldacci, is the book choice for discussion. The Branch Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month and is next scheduled for April 3, at 6:30 p.m. The Women, by T.C. Boyle, is the book selection for discussion.
