Sign Up Now for Summer Art Experience

Official registration for the 2019 “Summer Art Experience” for children is now open. Applications may be picked up at the Main or Branch Libraries.

Designed for children ages 6-13, participants register for a total of three free art classes over a six-week period, utilizing various art techniques taught by local art instructors. Class dates will be on Monday afternoons from June 10-July 15, or Tuesday afternoons from June 11-July 16.

Space Wars Book Battle!

To the Moon and BackHey kids! Enter into a Space Wars Book Battle at Rodman Library from April 1 to May 24. Twenty picture books will battle it out to determine the best space-themed illustration decided by your votes!  Each round will last two weeks. Just stop by the library’s Children's Department to view the contestants and receive a ballot. For more information, call the Main Library Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Kids Make & Take Yarn Vase

Kids, have fun decorating your own special vase with colorful yarn and then it take home! Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 11, at 4 p.m., in the Children’s Program Room at the Main Library. All supplies will be furnished.

This is a free event open to children of all ages. No registration is needed.

Be a Super Reader at Rodman Library

Throughout April, families are invited to join the Children’s Department Super Reader Program. Library cardholders may pick up a Super Reader card at the Main Library Children’s Desk, Branch or Bookmobile. For each children’s item (with the exception of DVDs, toys or music CDs) checked out, participants will receive one stamp on the card.

Each completed card, with 50 stamps, may be turned in at any location for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card. You may enter multiple times throughout the month. The library is not responsible for any lost cards. Winners will be notified by phone. For more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Chapter Chat Children's Book Club

Upside-Down MagicChapter Chat combines the individual Boys and Girls Clubs into one club for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. The next meeting is Wednesday, April 10, at 4:15 p.m. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

April’s book is Upside Down Magic, by Sarah Mlynowski. Registration is required for a four-week checkout of a selected title one month in advance.

Spring Storytime with Hot Pots

Baby chicksChildren, ages 3-12, are invited to Rodman Branch Library for a Spring Storytime on Wednesday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m., or Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m.

A story will be read first at the library, then children and their guardian will proceed to Hot Pots to paint a ceramic chick figurine. Snacks will be offered. The cost is $10.00, payable to Hot Pots before the event. Registration is required and can be made at https://hotpotspottery.com/ or by phone at 330-823-3333.

Ongoing Programs at Rodman Public Library

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

 

Wee Read Main Library, ages birth through two years - Meets at the Main Library every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Wee Read introduces children to books, fingerplays and music incorporating the six early learning skills.

Storytime Main Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Main Library every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Storytime Branch Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Branch Library every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Play Group allows children to make friends, play, and share stories on every third or fourth Saturday in the Children’s Program Room from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This play group is designed for children to learn, socialize, and explore through play. It is aimed for birth to kindergarten ages with an adult caregiver, but all are welcome. No registration is needed.

Tales for Tails - From January through May, meets the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the Main Children's Program Room. Children try their reading skills on local therapy dogs that will "listen" to stories. Dogs in attendance are members of Therapy Dogs International and the "Paws and Reflect" Pet Therapy group of Alliance Community Hospital. Sign up in advance. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tween Council is open to enthusiastic 4th to 6th graders who want to make a difference in the library. Tweens will meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:15 p.m. to share ideas for upcoming programs, current trends, and what they and their peers are reading. Tween Council will meet in the Children’s Program Room and no registration is needed.
