Rock Salt and Nails

Rock Salt and Nails Acoustic Band Concert - June 2

Join us for a fun afternoon of music at Rodman Public Library as the Rock Salt and Nails Acoustic Band (RSN) entertains with a mix of the blues, bluegrass, and ballads. The performance runs from 2 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, June 2, in Rodman Main Auditorium, and is suitable for all ages.

The local band includes Keith McMahon from Homeworth, Jim Dutter from Louisville, and Priscilla Roggenkamp from Alliance. Rock Salt and Nails formed in 2008 when Keith, Priscilla and Jim joined forces to create music with a rich acoustic sound and solid vocals.

Summer Bookmobile Schedule

Summer Bookmobile StopsRodman Public Library announces its Bookmobile 2018 Summer Schedule. In addition to books, the Bookmobile, which is disability accessible, carries magazines, books on CD and your favorite DVDs for all ages, with a two week check out for all materials.

The printed Bookmobile 2018 Summer Schedule is available for patrons and may be picked up at the Main and Branch locations, or may be viewed on Rodman Library’s website at www.rodmanlibrary.com. Patrons may also call the Main Library at 330-821-2665, or the Branch Library at 330-821-1313, for schedule information. The Bookmobile runs on a rotating two week schedule. The Bookmobile 2018 Summer Schedule is as follows:

Basic Calligraphy with John Whitacre - Branch

Calligraphy is the art of beautiful handwriting. Have you ever wondered how to create this expressive art form? Now is your chance to learn with John Whitacre at the Branch Library on Monday, June 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Whitacre will demonstrate the basics of calligraphy and work with the participants. He will show how to hold the pen, what paper and ink to use, and types of pens. This is a free event. Supplies will be provided at the class. Registration is required as the class size is limited. Summer Reading Program for All Ages

“Libraries Rock” is the theme of Rodman Public Library’s 2018 Adult, Teens, and Children’s Summer Reading Program that begins on Tuesday, May 29, and runs through Saturday, July 28. The adult program is open to ages 18 and older. Adults may sign up for Summer Reading at the front desk of the Main or Branch Libraries and Bookmobile. One check out transaction per day of any library material qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing. One gift card (purchased from Alliance area local businesses) will be awarded to the week’s winner. A new weekly drawing starts over every week. The weekly prizes are provided courtesy of the Friends of Rodman Public Library.

Evening Book Discussion Group

Little Fires EverywhereAre you a book lover? Are you interested in meeting other book lovers to compare notes and have a lively discussion? Join us at the evening book discussion group Monday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m., in Rodman Public Library’s Conference Room. Little Fires Everywhere, by Celeste Ng, is the book choice for discussion. The title is carried at Rodman Main and Branch Libraries—also available electronically. The book selection for July is The Widows of Malabar Hill, by Sujata Massey. Branch Book Club

Hillbilly ElegyA book club for adults has started at Rodman Library Branch. The Branch Book Club will meet on the first Wednesday of each month and is next scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. Hillbilly Elegy, by J.D. Vance, is the book selection for discussion. The book is available at both Main and Branch Libraries—also available electronically. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, stop at the Branch or call 330-821-1313.

Create a Sand Art Terrarium with the Friends and Hot Pots

The Friends of Rodman Library and Hot Pots invite you to a fun-filled “Create a Sand Art Terrarium” event on Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 4 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium. This marks the sixth month of events celebrating forty years of the Friends of Rodman Library. The cost is $15.00 per terrarium that includes supplies, payable to Hot Pots Pottery on the day of the program. You have a choice of container and succulent plants. Add sand and dirt. Unleash your creativity and complete your design with sea glass, sea shells, rocks, moss, and more. The event is open to the public but registration is required. Online Genealogy Basics

Online Genealogy Basics presented by Michelle Dillon, president of the Alliance Historical Society, will be giving a demonstration on Monday, June 18, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium. She will show where to find the genealogy databases offered on the Rodman Library website, tips for basic searching, and will also demonstrate with a sample search. As time permits, following the presentation a Q & A period will be offered. This program is cosponsored by the Alliance Historical Society. Free and open to the public. No registration is needed. Tech Time Thursdays

Beginning on Thursday, June 7, and continuing through August 23, Rodman Library will be offering “Tech Time Thursday.” On Thursdays, June 7, 14, and 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., our Computer Lab will be open for any questions you may have about your computer or electronic devices. Problems with your iPhone? iPad app questions? Android device concerns? We will be here to help you. Just stop in. No registration is needed. "KnitWits" Knitting Circle - Meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Main Auditorium.

Writers' Alliance - Meets the 2nd Monday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium.

Caregiver Support Group - Meets the last Thursday of the month (except November and December, meets the 3rd Thursday) from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Main Children’s Program Room.
