Naturalist Doug Hitchcox March 17,
7:00 pm

The Midcoast Audubon Society will host naturalist Doug Hitchcox, presenting “Bringing Nature Home” on Thursday evening, March 17, at 7:00 pm. As habitats become fragmented, our backyards -- large and small -- are increasingly important areas for birds and other wildlife. Largely based on the work of Doug Tallamy, he will look at the importance of using native plantings to provide food and shelter for our insects and birds. Dragon Farm Salons Hosts Eliza Townsend March 20, 2:00 pm

The next Dragon Farm Salon will feature Eliza Townsend on “Money, Power, and Women in Maine.” Townsend is the Executive Director of the Maine Women’s Lobby and Maine Women’s Policy Center. Her extensive professional record includes eight years in the House of Representatives and service as House Chair of Appropriations, the first Executive Director of the Maine League of Conservation Voters & Maine Conservation Voters Educational Fund, and Commissioner of the state’s Department of Conservation. Film “The Century of the Self” March 22, 7:00 pm

The Camden Philosophical Society will begin its 2016 Film, Lecture, and Discussion Series with Part 1 (“Happiness Machines”) of the documentary “The Century of the Self” by filmmaker Adam Curtis. Fairy Costume Party March 24, 5:30 pm

Join us for a Fairy Costume Tea Party. Get your costumes out and bring a finger snack to share. Join us during a special month packed with woodland fun! Chase away the winter blues! We’ll watch a fairy flick at the costume tea party on Thursday, March 24, at 5:30 pm.  Hope to see you there!.

Simply Books! March 26, 2:00 pm

Simply Books! is the library’s book group designed for book lovers. There’s no set reading list, we don’t all read the same book, and it’s very informal. Interact Club to give Slide Talk on Guatemala March 29, 7:00 pm

The students of the Midcoast Interact Club will give a slide talk on their recent trip to Central America on Tuesday evening, March 29, at 7:00 pm. Interact is a division of Rotary International for students ages 12 to 18 who are interested in addressing community needs through hands-on service. The Interact team traveled to Guatemala to work with Safe Passage, an organization that empowers the poorest, at-risk children of families working in the community of the Guatemala City Garbage Dump, by creating opportunities and fostering dignity through the power of education. Click here for more information..

John Muir Trail March 31, 7:00 pm

Rockport resident Tim Seymour hiked the John Muir Trail in California at the end of last summer and has returned with incredibly beautiful images to share. He will present a multi-media show at the Camden Public Library on Thursday evening, March 31, at 7:00 pm.  The John Muir Trail is the “premier hiking trail in the United States.” The trail starts in America’s treasure, Yosemite National Park, and continues 211 miles through the Ansel Adams Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, King’s Canyon National Park, and ends at the highest peak in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney at 14,505 ft..

April is Maritime Month!

Here’s a preview of our speaker series for our annual “Maritime Month” in April. We’re looking forward to some intriguing presentations! The Penobscot Marine Museum will again be bringing one of their vintage photography collections to display in the Picker Room throughout the month. This year, the display will be “The Allure of the Lighthouse: The Postcard View” from their Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company collection. Click here for more information..

Upcoming: Padma Venkatraman April 5, 4:00 pm

Padma Venkatraman was born in Chennai, India, and is now an award-winning American author living in Rhode Island. She will visit the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, April 5, at 4:00 pm, to talk with us about the status of women in India and throughout history. Dr. Venkatraman has lived in five countries, worked as chief scientist on oceanographic vessels, and even spent time underwater before becoming an author. Library Coffeehouse Features Meteora April 7

The trio Meteora, comprised of Will Brown of Lincolnville and Jim Loney and Kat Logan of Friendship, are favorite performers at the Camden Library Coffeehouse and will return for an April 7 appearance. They had to postpone their concert last November due to a bout with pneumonia, but they are back as strong as ever this spring! Admission to the Coffeehouse is only $7, refreshments will be available, doors open at 6:30 for the 7:00 pm Coffeehouse on Thursday, April 7. Click here for more information..
