The Camden Conference will host speaker Tae Chong on “Why being neighborly is more important now than ever,” on how Maine’s emerging markets and emerging workforce depends on people from “away.” Tae has over twenty years experience working with the immigrant and refugee populations in Maine. He has worked with this population as an educator, advocate, policy maker, social service provider, and now as a business advisor. Birding in Cambodia November 17, 7:00 pm
Howie Nielsen will present “Bird Life and Conservation in the Kingdom of Cambodia” on Thursday, November 17, at 7:00 pm, as part of the Midcoast Audubon Society’s series. Come to the program and see camera-trapping of new species for this area of Southest Asia, and coastal survey work for conservation of endangered species. Medicare and Medicaid Information November 21 and 28, 10:00 am
You are invited to a no-pressure, informative community presentation to learn all about Medicare, get answers to all of your questions, and learn about the benefits of a plan from United Healthcare. Bring neighbors, and bring your questions! The purpose of the meetings is to inform and educate the attendees about their choices when becoming a Medicare member, and to answer questions, specifically about Medicare Advantage Plans with United Healthcare; enrollments will not be taken at the meetings. Gallery Talk on Imero Gobbato November 22, 7:00 pm
The library is hosting an exhibit of the work of Imero Gobbato, “A Place Called Humbravana,” during the month of November. A repeat presentation of “An Introduction to Humbravana” will be offered by Gobbato’s friend and studio assistant, Rose Willson, on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:00 pm. By popular request, the slide talk will be a repeat of the talk presented earlier in the month, which was attended by a standing-room-only audience. The presentation will include an illustrated biography of Gobbato and a performance of a “Humbravanian” song by Rachel and John Nicholas.
Originally from Italy, Imero Gobbato was an imaginative, talented, and prolific artist who lived and worked in Camden for many years. All his life he created paintings, drawings, prints, carvings, boats, models, and music. He is best known for his light-filled paintings, reflecting his love of the rocky shores of Mid-Coast Maine. Geshe Gehlek November 27
Tibetan Buddhist master Geshe Gehlek will give a talk on “Awakening Compassion” on Sunday, November 27, at 2:00 pm. The free talk will be hosted by the Rockland Shambhala Meditation Center. Geshe Gehlek will speak about the Buddhist path of liberation and will share experiences and insights on the innate suffering of humanity, as well as the Buddha’s teachings on compassion and freedom from suffering. Through his talk and the discussion to follow, Geshe Gehlek will engage the community in a timely dialogue about how compassion -- understanding suffering and taking action to relieve it -- can truly shift our world.
