Claudia Schmidt September 1, 7:00 pm

Claudia Schmidt returns to the Library Coffeehouse on Thursday, September 1, at 7:00 pm, to open the fall season of the Coffeehouse. Admission is only $12; for tickets call the library at 236-3440 or email info@librarycamden.org. Claudia Schmidt is an acclaimed singer with nineteen albums of mostly original songs, exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms, accompanying herself with 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer. Schmidt performs a quirky and wonderful hodge-podge (her word!) of music, poetry, story, laughter, and drama, celebrating the moment. Windjammer Festival Begins September 2

Celebrate Camden’s maritime heritage and living traditions at the annual Camden Windjammer Festival! Events will be held in Harbor Park, the Public Landing, and at the library. From the great age of sail -- when coasting schooners were launched in the harbor, through the birth of the windjammer business in the 1930s, to today’s windjammer fleet and elegant yachts -- sailing ships have always defined our lovely, vibrant community. Click here for more information..

Friday Tours Continue, 4:00 pm

The Camden Public Library and the Camden Area Business Group host free walking tours of downtown Camden every Friday at 4:00 pm, through September 9. The tours begin on Atlantic Avenue at the Children’s Garden of the library and end at the Opera House. The tours are free and last approximately an hour; donations are appreciated, and reservations are encouraged. Please call the library at 236-3440 or stop by the Circulation Desk..

Classic Yacht Model Maker Robert Eddy September 4, 2:00 pm

Yacht model maker Robert Eddy of Camden will talk about his craft and his creations at the Camden Public Library on Sunday, September 4, at 2:00 pm. The presentation will be part of the Camden Windjammer Festival’s weekend festivities. “I have some images that will show some of the highlights of my career,” said Eddy, “and which will show the process and complexities of yacht model making. I will include the Herreshoff 1915 schooner yacht Mariette, and Atlantide, which took 5500 hours to build.” Click here for more information..

Community Conversation about Opiate Addiction September 6, 7:00 pm

Dr. Ira Mandel and the Knox County Recovery Coalition (KCRC) will hold a “community conversation” regarding the opiate addiction epidemic gripping Knox County on Tuesday, September 6, at 7:00 pm. Mandel will provide an overview about the epidemic and how it affects many babies, children, young adults, parents, and grandparents — entire families — and affects more than a thousand people in Knox County. KCRC will address the failure of state and local government and healthcare systems to break this cycle of addiction or to offer any organized effort to address drug addiction in Knox County.  Click here for more information..

Stroke Support Group September 7, 10:00 am

The next Midcoast Stroke Support Group meeting is on Wednesday, September 7, at 10:00 am. “We welcome survivors, family, and friends of stroke survivors, or really anyone faced with a neurological challenge,” said Carol Rohl, one of the Support Group organizers. “We share stories and things we have found helpful in this life change. Art Quilts by Sarah Ann Smith Reception September 8, 4:00 pm

“Color. Line. Texture. Imagery. Stories. Being part of the tradition of quilting and part of the future of quilting and art. The act of creating. Making the pictures in my head become real. These are some of the things that spur me to create!” says Sarah Ann Smith, the September Artist of the Month. Her exhibit, “C3: Color, Cloth, Collage,” will be on display in the Picker Room at the library through the month of September. Maker Faire September 10!

The fourth annual Midcoast Mini Maker Faire will be held Saturday, September 10, at the Camden Amphitheatre from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Faire has everything from hands-on to high tech! The Faire features many interactive exhibits and booths with Makers on hand to enthusiastically demonstrate all the projects they are working on.  Click here for more information..

Ocean Garbage Dumping Practices September 15, 7:00 pm

The Midcoast Audubon Society offers a monthly program on environmental issues at the Camden Public Library. On Thursday, September 15, at 7:00 pm, Jack Boak will present a “History of Ocean Garbage Dumping Practices and Relevant Regulations” and how they affect various ecosystems. Jack is a retired Master Mariner who served 35 years on various US-flag merchant ships and is also a Nautical Science Specialist..
