Friday Tours Continue, 4:00 pm
The Camden Public Library and the Camden Area Business Group host free walking tours of downtown Camden every Friday at 4:00 pm, through September 9. The tours begin on Atlantic Avenue at the Children’s Garden of the library and end at the Opera House. “Blue and Gray” Re-Enactors in Camden’s Harbor Park August 20
The 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Company B will be joined by their Southern counterparts, the 15th Alabama Company G, camping in Camden’s Harbor Park and Amphitheatre this weekend! The companies will erect an authentic campground with tents and a firepit, and will offer vintage activities on Saturday, August 20. The two companies are living history groups dedicated to preserving the memory of Civil War volunteers. The historical Company G and Company B actually met in combat at Gettysburg in July of 1863. Eleventh Annual Children’s Book-Fair-by-the-Sea August 20, 1:00 pm
The Camden Public Library, in conjunction with Sherman’s Books, is pleased to host the Eleventh Annual Children’s Book-Fair-by-the-Sea on August 20, 1:00 to 4:00 pm. This celebratory event for children, families, and lovers of children’s books will feature area authors and illustrators. “Mary Poppins” is the Monday Night Movie for August 22, at 7:45 pm. “Mary Poppins” (1964, 2 hrs 19 min) is perhaps the most beloved of all Disney films. The movie is free; bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating. Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins, a magical and loving woman who descends from the clouds in response to the Banks children’s advertisement for a nanny. “Expanding Opportunities” in Kenya August 23, 7:00 pm
Expanding Opportunities will give a talk on Tuesday, August 23, about their travel program called Friends Across the Ocean. Expanding Opportunities is both a non-profit organization (in the US) and an NGO (non-governmental organization) in Kenya. The focus of Friends Across The Ocean is a full-immersion experience into Kenyan culture with emphasis on the nonprofit’s mission to increase sustainability through education and charitable projects, as an alternative to mass tourism in Kenya. Dance Show at the Camden Amphitheatre August 24, 6:30 pm
Kinetic Energy Alive Dance Productions will present a student dance show on Wednesday, August 24, at 6:30 pm in the Amphitheatre. The performance is free but donations will be accepted. Excited to bring her choreography to the community of Camden for the 14th year in a row, Kea Tesseyman, owner/director of Kinetic Energy Alive Dance Productions, shares a joyful array of dance, performed by all ages from 6 to 60 years old, in styles of hip hop, breakdancing, contemporary, modern, interpretive, bollywood, and free dance. Maine Pro Musica Brass Quintet August 25, 7:00 pm
For the final event in the library's free Summer Concert Series, the Maine Pro Musica Brass Quintet will perform in the Amphitheatre on Thursday evening, August 25, at 7:00 pm. Djump! is a local African drumming ensemble that has been playing for more than five years in the Midcoast area. Upcoming: Maker Faire September 10!
The fourth annual Midcoast Mini Maker Faire will be held Saturday, September 10 at the Camden Amphitheatre from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Maker Faire attracts about 900 people each year, both local community members and visitors to the midcoast. The Faire features many interactive exhibits and booths with Makers on hand to enthusiastically demonstrate all the projects they are working on. The Faire has everything from hands-on to high tech!
