Linden O’Ryan Artist of the Month for March

Linden O’Ryan of Thomaston is the Artist of the Month. “Journeying through Paint” is the title of the exhibit of her colorful and whimsical watercolors in the Picker Room. “The words I use to best describe the intent of these paintings are whimsy, inspiration, and gratitude,” she says. “These words weave their way through my work which focuses on the motifs of nature through color and movement.” Click here for more information..

Sign Up for Text Messages!

You can now receive TEXT MESSAGES from the library as well as e-mail, to let you know when your books have arrived and to let you know when your items are coming due. It’s simple to sign up for text messages! Click on the “My Card” button on the upper corner of any page on the Library website, and log in using your name and library card number. You will then be asked to “Modify Personal Information.” Simply enter your cell phone number and OPT IN, then Submit. You will get a test message asking you to confirm by replying “yes.” After that, you will get an official welcome message. This automated service is way cool but you will still need to check your library account for due dates and renewal status. Click here for more information..

Oshima Brothers at Library Coffeehouse March 3, 7:00 pm

The Oshima Brothers, Jamie and Sean, bring their youthful high energy, songwriting, and harmonies to Camden for a one-of-a-kind evening. They will be featured this week at the Camden Library Coffeehouse on Thursday, March 3, at 7:00 pm. These boys have been creating music together their whole lives, and it shows when you hear them sing. Book Sale March 5 and 6

The next reading/discussion session of the Camden Philosophical Society is on Tuesday, March 8, at 4:00 pm. “Mayans and Mennonites, a Visit to Belize” March 8, 7:00 pm

In December, Greg Dorr of Camden flew into Cancun, took a series of buses to Black Man Eddy in Belize, and visited two contrasting Mennonite communities as well as the Mayan ruin Cahal Pech. On his way back he spent a full day in Fillipe Carrillo in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, the heart of the failed Mayan revolt. His visit also included the Temple of the Foliated Cross in Chiapas. C-R Historical Society Hosts Les Fossel March 13, 2:00 pm

As part of its Winter Speaker Series, the Camden-Rockport Historical Society will host a talk by Les Fossel at the Camden Public Library on Sunday, March 13, at 2:00 pm. The “Tech Tuesday” topic on March 15 will be Digital Photos: Storing Online. We’ll go over free cloud services for storing photos, and explore services that sync phones and tablets to online storage, using Microsoft’s OneDrive and iPhotos as examples. Songwriters Continue March 15, 6:00 pm 

Songwriters meet monthly through the winter in preparation for performing their new works at the Library Coffeehouse. Come find a supportive group for your new songs, and perhaps some musicians to play with. The group meets 6:00-8:00 pm on Third Tuesdays in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room; the next session is Tuesday, March 15, at 6:00 pm. Our troubadours John Nicholas and David Dodson will again lead the sessions. “Wild by Nature” March 15, 7:00 pm

Stir your heart and soul by taking an extraordinary journey on the wild side through this multi-media presentation with Lee Ann Szelog and Thomas Mark Szelog. You will witness surprising, beautiful, and memorable moments with wildlife and nature through photographs and stories by the Szelogs. Their slide talk, “Wild by Nature,” will be on Tuesday evening, March 15, at 7:00 pm. “A Scandalously Short History of Medicine in Maine in the 19th and 20th Centuries” March 16, 1:00 pm

Dr. Richard Kahn will offer a lighthearted look at healthcare as it was practiced in bygone days in the Pine Tree State on Wednesday, March 16, 1:00 pm, when Quarry Hill and Camden Public Library host “A Scandalously Short History of Medicine in Maine in the 19th and 20th Centuries.” The program is part of Quarry Hill’s Adventures in Living Well series for adults age 50-plus. Naturalist Doug Hitchcox March 17,

The Midcoast Audubon Society will host naturalist Doug Hitchcox, presenting “Bringing Nature Home” on Thursday evening, March 17, at 7:00 pm. As habitats become fragmented, our backyards, large and small, are increasingly important areas for birds and other wildlife. Largely based on the work of Doug Tallamy, he will look at the importance of using native plantings to provide food and shelter for our insects and birds.
