“The Wandering Musician” December 10, 7:00 pm

Heidi Karod recently returned from Peru where she volunteered with CANAT (Center for Child and Adolescent Workers). Karod is a violinist and has taught Spanish and English as a Second Language to students from middle school through college. She will be speaking about her recent trips, during which she volunteered with her host sister’s non-profit organization, CANAT, a group that helps over 400 children who work as young as age six to help support their families, and who often live in an abusive and violent environment. CANAT provides educational, health, and vocational services to these children and their families. Click here for more information..

Ten Easy Steps to Avoid Holidays Weight Gain and Burnout December 14, 12:00 noon

Dr. Judi Valentine will present “Survive the Turbulence: 10 Easy Steps to Avoid Holidays Weight Gain and Burnout” at the monthly Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Monday, December 14, hosted by Destination Wellness. “Diamond Myths and Realities” December 15, 7:00 pm

Are diamonds really scarce? Can anyone tell the difference between synthetic diamonds and natural diamonds? Does De Beers control the global diamond trade? These questions and more will be discussed in Craig Mudge’s illustrated presentation entitled “Diamond Myths and Realities” on Tuesday, December 15 at the Camden Public Library. The Poetry and Music of Dave Morrison December 16, 1:00 pm

Modern-day troubadour Dave Morrison returns to delight us with his performance art. Let the stresses of the holiday season melt away as the Midcoast poet reads some of his newer works while accompanying himself on the guitar. Morrison will perform “Soundscapes” at the library at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 16, hosted by Quarry Hill as part of their Adventures in Living Well Series. The Original STAR WARS December 17, 6:30 pm

We will be screening the ORIGINAL “Star Wars,” from 1977, on the eve of the release of the next installment of the Star Wars saga. This original episode of Star Wars is now dubbed “Episode IV: A New Hope,” but when it first came out it stood alone and was a masterpiece, the legend that made people stand in line for two hours for the midnight show. Come join the excitement at the Camden Public Library on Thursday evening, December 17, at 6:30 pm in the Reading Room. Read and chat – entirely in Spanish! This Spanish language reading and conversation group  will continue on second and fourth Tuesdays at 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. We’ll chat in Spanish about what we’re reading, etc..

Poetry Reading with Martin Steingesser December 22, 7:00 pm

Martin Steingesser will be giving a reading from his new book of poetry, Yellow Horses, at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday evening, December 22, at 7:00 pm. Yellow Horses, the third book of Portland’s first Poet Laureate (2007-09), is an engaging, nourishing, and lyric journey through sun swept fields and meadows and sometimes dark woods of discovery, love, and loss. Click here for more information..

Holiday Schedule

The Library will be open 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on December 24 (Christmas Eve), and closed for Christmas on December 25. We will be open as usual on Saturday, December 26. On December 31 (New Year’s Eve), we will be closing at 5:00 pm. We will be closed on January 1 and open as usual on January 2. Have a terrific holiday season!!.

Holiday Movie: Narnia December 29, 6:00 pm

This year’s Holiday Movie will be the classic full-length feature movie from C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” (135 minutes, Disney, PG, 2005). The movie will be screened in the Picker Room at 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening, December 29. Read the book! Come to the movie!.
