Born To Read Storytime

Babies and Toddlers Ages: 0-2
Tuesdays 10 - 11 am
No registration required. 

Come out and enjoy a special time of reading, songs, fingerplays, and socialization with other young children and their caregivers. Each session of Born to Read consists of a variety of activities, such as music, movements, stories, and toys.

 

Baby Art

Ages: 0-2
Saturday, 3/14 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Through art, children will express themselves and expand their imaginations. Our wide variety of hands-on activities will build a creative foundation and provide an age-appropriate outlet for learning and self-expression.

 

Play Cafe

Ages: 3-5
Thursdays from 10 - 11 am
No registration required. 

Drop in for stories, music, toys, and centers. Children will learn while having fun and making new friends.

 

Messy Mondays

Ages: 3-  5
Monday, 3/2 from 11:30 am- 12:30 pm
No registration required. 

Children ages 2+ can join us to create, explore, and enjoy some messy fun. Come get messy and leave the clean-up to us! Be sure to wear play clothes.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Club

Age: Any Child Too Young for Kindergarten
OngoingEvent | Any Time The Library is Open

Register in Youth Services Department.

Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills needed for future school and life success.   
Participants will receive a reading log to record books read.  Rewards will be given for every 100 books read. Ask for your reading log at the Kids’ Room Desk.

STEAM Jr.

Grades: 3rd - 5th
Saturdays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Will restart in April.

With the support of Museum of Science and Industry, join us for STEAM Jr. Students can engage in fun, hands-on science activities that build curiosity and encourage teamwork.

 

Crazy 8s Math Club

Grades: 3rd - 5th
Thursday, 3/19 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Crazy 8s is an over-the-top recreational after-school club that gets kids excited about math. You'll build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret spy codes and play get-up-and-move games like Toilet Paper Olympics.

 

I Brother II Another

Boys Ages: 10 - 15
Tuesdays & Thursdays
from 4:30 - 6:00 pm

No registration required.  

Mentors in this this program will provide positive programming for boys.  The program provides educational and recreation experiences through positive peer mentoring, life skills development, and positive social interaction.  

 

Lego Club

Grades: K - 5th
Saturday, 3/7 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm

No registration required.  

The LEGO club encourages children to learn while having fun! Creativity, problem solving, and teamwork are some of the skills building with LEGOS can teach children.  Join us and create something awesome!

 

Art Adventures

Grades: K - 5th
Saturday, 3/14 from 12:30 - 1:30 pm

Capture the imagination of your child by exploring a world of art! Students will discover a new adventure and create their own piece of the story to take home.

TEAM Library

Are you interested in serving your community and public library?  Would you like the chance to make your voice heard?  TEAM Library is Matteson Library's Young Adult Advisory Board and provides middle and high school students with service and leadership opportunities throughout the school year.  To apply, please pick up an application at the Youth Services Desk.  Snacks will be served at the monthly meetings.
 

Girl Power Book Discussion

Girls Grades: 6th - 8th

Girls may enjoy snacks and partake in spirited self-esteem-raising activities that allow girls to bond and empower each other.  Books will be available in Youth Services.
 

Fierce Anime Club

Stop by for our Fierce Anime Club.  Not just anime- it's also Japanese snacks, a craft or activity, and a place to talk about manga or anime.  But yeah, we'll also be watching anime.

Girls With Dreams

Girls Ages: 13 - 19
1st & 3rd Saturdays, 3/7 & 3/21 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
No registration required.  

In partnership with E.V.E Inc, mentors will work with girls of all abilities on character building, self-esteem and independence. This program will help girls build leadership skills and develop a true sense of their personal power.
