Born to Read Storytime

Age: Birth -  Months with Adult Caregiver
Tuesdays from 10-11 AM  

No registration required.

Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythms of language and reading with stories, music and rhymes. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses and build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Each class will end with half hour of play featuring age-appropriate toys and time for socializing. 

 

Little Makers

Ages: 3-5
Thursdays, from 10-11 AM

Little Makers invites young children to tinker, design and create together. Join us and explore new materials, tools, and processes as you make a project to take home. Sometimes creativity can get messy, so dress your little maker in old clothing that can be splattered with things like paint, ink, and glue.

 

Daycare Storytime

Age: Home Daycares with children age 0-5
Wednesdays from 10 - 11 AM

Home Daycares can enjoy books, music, rhymes, and a whole host of educational toys and musical instruments. Don’t miss out on this fun educational experience.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Club

Age: Any Child Too Young for Kindergarten
OngoingEvent | Any Time The Library is Open

Register in Youth Services Department.

Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills needed for future school and life success.   
Participants will receive a reading log to record books read.  Rewards will be given for every 100 books read. Ask for your reading log at the Kids’ Room Desk. 

Congratulations to Savanna T. She is the first child to complete the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

MSI Science Minors

Grades: 3rd - 5th

Calling all scientists! Join our after school science club and participate in six weeks of hands-on science activities Children who participate in the program will be eligible to take a field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. Program made available through a partnership with the Museum of Science & Industry Chicago, Illinois.

Girl Power Book Discussion

Grades: Girls in 4th - 6th

Girls will enjoy a relaxed book discussion with yummy snacks and partake in spirited self-esteem raising activities that allow girls to bond and empower each other. Books will be available at the Youth Services Desk & should be read before the meeting.

TEAM Library

Grades: 6th - 12th

TEAM library is Matteson Library’s Young Adult Advisory board and provides middle and high school students with service and leadership opportunities throughout the school year. To apply, please pick up an application at the youth services desk. Snacks will be served at the monthly meetings.

I Brother II Another will provide positive programming for boys in grades sixth and up. The program provides educational and recreational experiences through positive peer mentoring, life skills development, and positive social interaction. Our hope is that participants will improve in their ability to make better decisions, inspire them to be strong, have a positive self image, and gain confidence. Participation in the group is required to attend any special events and trips.

Learn to play from our instructor or just play with others to improve your skills.  
We provide the chess boards and pieces; bring your own trading card decks.

Jack And The Beanstalk Puppet Show

Age: All
Saturday, 4/28 from 1-2 PM
No registration required.  

Puppetfolk Productions bring to life the classic tale, “Jack and the Beanstalk.” With hand puppets, lights, music, and action, we’ll answer questions like, “Will poor Jack have to sell the family pet?” “Are there magical castles in the sky?” and most importantly, “Will the giant have Jack for breakfast?”

Step away from your electronics for an evening and join us for a night of board and card games.  Bring a friend, bring the family or just come alone! We will have a wide selection of games and snacks for the evening. Please register but drop-ins are always welcome.

We invite you to fill out our information forms.  
Homeschoolers: Your form will be used to keep you informed of library events that might interest your family.
Tutors: Your form will be used to provide information to library patrons who request to know about local area tutors.
