Born to Read Storytime

Age: Birth -  Months with Adult Caregiver
Tuesdays from 10-11 AM  
No registration required.

Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythms of language and reading with stories, music and rhymes. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses and build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Each class will end with half hour of play featuring age-appropriate toys and time for socializing. 

 

Young Rembrandts I

Ages: 3-5

Give your child the gift to express their creativity and bolster their ART vocabulary with our weekly step-by-step DRAWING classes. Illustrations featuring a cuddly kitten and monstrous tyrannosaurus rex will provide a great introduction to drawing animals. All this and more awaits for your budding artist. Daycare Storytime

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Club

Age: Any Child Too Young for Kindergarten
OngoingEvent | Any Time The Library is Open
Register in Youth Services Department.

Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills needed for future school and life success.   
Participants will receive a reading log to record books read.  Rewards will be given for every 100 books read. Ask for your reading log at the Kids’ Room Desk. 

Congratulations to Savanna T. She is the first child to complete the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

Cook-A-Book

Grades: K - 5th

Elementary students can join Ms. Vicki each month to prepare simple, hands-on recipes that you can eat afterwards.

Young students will explore science through a variety of hands on experiments, crafts, and demonstrations.

 

Young Rembrandts II

Students will build on their skills but also have a ton of fun while drawing and personalizing cool things like Ice Cream Cones, Robot and a Picasso Guitar lesson. Girl Power Book Discussion

Grades: Girls in 4th - 6th

TEAM Library

TEAM library is Matteson Library’s Young Adult Advisory board and provides middle and high school students with service and leadership opportunities throughout the school year. To apply, please pick up an application at the youth services desk. Snacks will be served at the monthly meetings.

 

Spades Club

Come out and meet other spade card game players, show your card playing skills and have a snack. This program is put on by The Adult Services Department but teens

I Brother II Another will provide positive programming for boys in grades sixth and up. The program provides educational and recreational experiences through positive peer mentoring, life skills development, and positive social interaction. Our hope is that participants will improve in their ability to make better decisions, inspire them to be strong, have a positive self image, and gain confidence. Participation in the group is required to attend any special events and trips.

Card Games) Night

Age: 1st Grade - Adults 
Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
No registration required.  

Learn to play from our instructor or just play with others to improve your skills.  
We provide the chess boards and pieces; bring your own trading card decks.  
Fun for the whole family.

 

Three Little Pigs Puppet Show

Age: All
Saturday, 3/24 from 1-2 PM
No registration required.  

“Three Little Pigs”, the classic fairy tale follows the adventures of the three piglets who have moved out, and problem solve dealing with situations in unique ways. This show will help teach strong moral values in: patience, hard work, and perseverance. When you do a job, do it well.

 

Family Quilting Basics - Make A Pillow

Age: 10-18 (1 Adult per youth, Adult must accompany a youth)
Saturday, 3/10 from 10 AM - 4 PM

Create a "9 Patch" pillow. The library provides: sewing machines, fabric, thread, and most basic supplies. 
Participants should bring: (1) A Seam Ripper, (2) Straight Pins - preferably with a ball on one end. Supplies can be picked up at a fabric store like JoAnn or at WalMart.

Step away from your electronics for an evening and join us for a night of board and card games.  Bring a friend, bring the family or just come alone! We will have a wide selection of games and snacks for the evening. Please register but drop-ins are always welcome.

Homeschoolers: Your form will be used to keep you informed of library events that might interest your family.
Tutors: Your form will be used to provide information to library patrons who request to know about local area tutors.
