Born to Read Storytime

Age: Birth -  Months with Adult Caregiver
Tuesdays from 10-11 AM  

No registration required.

Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythms of language and reading with stories, music and rhymes. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses and build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Each class will end with half hour of play featuring age-appropriate toys and time for socializing. 

 

Storytime STEAM

Ages: 3-5
Thursdays 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, from 10-11 AM  

No registration required.  

Storytime STEAM combines your favorite books with a simple STEAM challenge.

 

 

Daycare Storytime

Age: Home Daycares with children age 0-5
Wednesdays 2/7, 2/21 & 2/28 from 10 - 11 AM
No registration required.  

Home Daycares can enjoy books, music, rhymes, and a whole host of educational toys and musical instruments. Don’t miss out on this fun educational experience.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Club

Age: Any Child Too Young for Kindergarten
OngoingEvent | Any Time The Library is Open

Register in Youth Services Department.

Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills needed for future school and life success.   
Participants will receive a reading log to record books read.  Rewards will be given for every 100 books read. Ask for your reading log at the Kids’ Room Desk. 

Congratulations to Savanna T. She is the first child to complete the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

Cook-A-Book

Grades: K - 5th
Saturday, 2/3 from 11 AM - 12 PM

Elementary students can join Ms. Vicki each month to prepare simple, hands-on recipes that you can eat afterwards.

 Grades: K - 2nd

Young students will explore science through a variety of hands on experiments, crafts, and demonstrations.

 

Try-It Thursdays: Build It Strong

Grades: 3rd - 5th
Thursdays, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM

Using curriculum from The Museum of Science and Industry (MSI), students will create  and test various structures to build an understanding of what makes them strong.

 

Girl Power Book Discussion

Grades: Girls in 4th - 6th
Monday, from 7-8 PM

Girls will enjoy a relaxed book discussion with yummy snacks and partake in spirited self-esteem raising activities that allow girls to bond and empower each other. Books will be available at the Youth Services Desk & should be read before the meeting.

TEAM Library

Grades: 6th - 12th

TEAM library is Matteson Library’s Young Adult Advisory board and provides middle and high school students with service and leadership opportunities throughout the school year. To apply, please pick up an application at the youth services desk. Snacks will be served at the monthly meetings.

 

Spades Club

Ages: Grades 6th - Adult

Come out and meet other spade card game players, show your card playing skills and have a snack. This program is put on by The Adult Services Department but teens

Family Chess (and Trading Card Games) Night

Age: 1st Grade - Adults 
Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 PM

No registration required.  

Learn to play from our instructor or just play with others to improve your skills.  
We provide the chess boards and pieces; bring your own trading card decks.  
Fun for the whole family.  

 

All Ages Game Night

Step away from your electronics for an evening and join us for a night of board and card games.  Bring a friend, bring the family or just come alone! We will have a wide selection of games and snacks for the evening. Please register but drop-ins are always welcome.

We invite you to fill out our information forms.  
Homeschoolers: Your form will be used to keep you informed of library events that might interest your family.
Tutors: Your form will be used to provide information to library patrons who request to know about local area tutors.
