Born to Read Storytime

Age: Birth -  Months with Adult Caregiver
Tuesdays from 10-11 AM  

No registration required.

Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythms of language and reading with stories, music and rhymes. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses and build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Each class will end with half hour of play featuring age-appropriate toys and time for socializing. 

 

Little Chefs

Age: Kids Ages 3-5
Thursdays, from 10-11 AM

Preschoolers can enjoy the chance to try new foods and have fun "cooking" like the adults in their lives. Please inform the library of any food allergies when registering.

 

Daycare Storytime

Age: Home Daycares with children age 0-5
Every Wednesday in October except 10/18 from 10-11 AM

Home Daycares can enjoy books, music, rhymes, and a whole host of educational toys and musical instruments. Don’t miss out on this fun educational experience.

 
Read To The Rhythm
Scribble Monster

Any child from birth through those not yet in Kindergarten

Drop for a fun time with the group Scribble Monster. Join us for a great time packed with plenty of shaker eggs and some of our favorite books to sing as we kick-off our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading program.

 
Playgroup

Ages: 0-5
Starts Saturday, 10/28 from 10 AM - 12 PM
4th Saturday of each month

Join us for a special time just for your little one.
Not a library directed group; an informal playgroup for babies and their grown-ups. The library provides the gathering space and a variety of toys.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Club

Age: Any Child Too Young for Kindergarten
OngoingEvent | Any Time The Library is Open

Register in Youth Services Department.

Reading to preschool aged children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills needed for future school and life success.   
Participants will receive a reading log to record books read.  Rewards will be given for every 100 books read. Ask for your reading log at the Kids’ Room Desk.

TEAM Library

Are you interested in serving your community and public library? Would you like the chance to make your voice heard? TEAM library is Matteson Library’s Young Adult Advisory board and provides middle and high school students with service and leadership opportunities throughout the school year. To apply, please pick up an application at the youth services desk. Snacks will be served at the monthly meetings.

No registration required.  

Learn to play from our instructor or just play with others to improve your skills.  
We provide the chess boards and pieces; bring your own trading card decks.  
Fun for the whole family.  


Justice League versus The Avengers Party

Age: 3 - Adults 
Sturday, 10/28 from 2 PM

Kids 9 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.

Which team is better? Is the Hulk or Superman stronger? Is Batman or Iron Man smarter? So you can find who is the best, we’ll have all sorts of games and activities at our battle party.

We invite you to fill out our information forms.  
Homeschoolers: Your form will be used to keep you informed of library events that might interest your family.
Tutors: Your form will be used to provide information to library patrons who request to know about local area tutors.
