Space is very limited!  Register here!

The library will supply sewing machines and white thread.  You bring your fabric & basic sewing supplies.  See the list below for the supplies you should get.  Bring a bag lunch that does NOT need to go in the refrigerator.

Items Participants Must Bring to MAPLD Sewing Class

Fabric
You need Quilter’s Weight 100% Cotton (42 to 44 inches wide) The person working at the fabric store/department should be able to guide you to this type of fabric.

  • 1 yard of main body fabric
  • ½ yard of contrast fabric

OR

  • 1 ½ yards of one single fabric if you don’t want your pillowcase cuff to be a different color

Thread
The library will supply white thread you can use for your pillowcase.   If you want any other color, you will need to purchase it.  If you purchase thread, get 1 spool of all purpose thread. (I recommend Coats brand – sometimes called Dual Duty.  Both Wal-Mart and Joann Fabrics carry it.)

Fabric Cutting Scissors
These scissors should be very sharp and not used for cutting anything other than fabric.

A Measuring Tape
The type for fabric, not the kind used in construction.

A Seam Ripper

Straight Pins
I recommend the type that have a ball on the end because they are easier to grasp.

The last four items on this list can be found in a kit that is approximately $10 at Wal-Mart.  Fabric and sewing supplies (sold individually) will be available locally at either Wal-Mart or JoAnn Fabrics.
