March Events at Willard Library

Mark your calendar now for these great events happening at Willard Library and the Helen Warner Branch in March! There is fun for the whole family throughout the entire month.

Magician Baffling Bill returns to Battle Creek with his amazing illusions and a new friend, Gus the Bunny, a rabbit who can perform card tricks! Don't miss his show this Thursday night at the Miller Stone Building.

Get a special preview of a new play on Monday, March 7. What A Do Theatre will present an excerpt from its upcoming "Cheaper by the Dozen" production. The Gilbreth family's oldest daughter, Anne, is in high school and mortified when her father, an efficiency expert, decides to apply his unorthodox methods to the family of 12 children. The results are terribly embarrassing, funny, and extremely effective.

Teens can create something new at the library as we celebrate Teen Tech Week on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 8 and 9. From 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, the Kellogg Community College Bruin Bots staff will offer students hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities, as well as discuss how robotics are used in various jobs in the community. They also will provide information related to STEM careers available locally and the kind of education and training students need to enter those fields. From 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, teens will be able to make a technology-related craft.

Also, on Wednesday, March 23, Tween Maker Night will offer youngsters another opportunity to get creative and build something amazing.

Battle Creek Reads concludes in March with a second author visit. Ruth Reichl, author of Delicious!, will discuss her book and her career writing about food. Reichl, who was restaurant critic for The New York Times and the last editor-in-chief of now defunct Gourmet magazine, recently published My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes That Saved My Life and also is the author of three memoirs. Her talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session, and she will autograph her books. Visitors who arrive early will also have the opportunity to participate in "Apps and Apps" from 6-7 p.m. Get information about library apps and discover how to download e-books and other digital materials with your library card — and enjoy delicious appetizers!

Curious George is always ready for a new adventure. This time, he will be visiting us on Friday, March 11 at the Helen Warner Branch! Hear a story about Curious George's first visit to a library. After storytime, Curious George will greet children, and they may have their photos taken with him. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras.

Come to the library for Family Game Day and have some good old-fashioned fun playing board games, card games, and more — the whole family can participate. The library has dozens of games for all ages. Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.
