Gilmore Keyboard Festival: Baby Grands

No stage, no seats, no problem. In conjunction with the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, children ages 0-6 are invited to this piano play time presented by Alpin Hong. He has extensive classical piano training and a background in extreme sports, martial arts, and video games. Kids can move freely around the space while parents, family, and friends enjoy an unconventional piano recital for kids, without compromising the music. The performance is sponsored by the Battle Creek Community Foundation and the Guido A. and Elizabeth Binda Foundation.

Battle Creek Reads: Ellen Airgood

“South of Superior,” by Ellen Airgood, is the 2018 Battle Creek Reads selection. Airgood will discuss her book, her writing process, and life in the Upper Peninsula. The novel tells the story of Madeline Stone who leaves her Chicago life to live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. As she is drawn into the dramas of the small, tight-knit town, Madeline learns that it’s a place where times are tough and debts run deep, but where friendship, community, and compassion run deeper. Airgood’s books will be for sale and she will be signing them.

As the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League celebrates its 75th anniversary, meet Mary Moore, second-base player for the Battle Creek Belles during the 1951-52 season, and Carol Sheldon, a member of the board of directors of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Moore will share her memories of the team and what it was like to play all-girl baseball. Sheldon will provide an overview of the league, display her memorabilia and provide the color commentary as an AAGPBL baseball archivist, fan, and expert.
