Join Us for Orangutans of Borneo Presented by Chris and Ricky Daly
Today the Friends of the Library Travel Slide Show Series presents, “The Orangutans of Borneo” with Chris and Ricky Daly. The Daly’s will take the audience on their excursion into Camp Leakey and their time with several families of Orangutans in their natural habitat. As they share their portraits of these beautiful primates, they’ll discuss their meeting and the work of Dr. Birute Galdikas who for over forty years dedicated herself to the Orangutans ensuring they continue to thrive in this remote province of Indonesia. Galdikas is one of Louis Leakey’s “golden angels;” the others being Dianne Fossey (Silver Back Gorillas) and Jane Goodall (Chimpanzees). The presentation begins at 7 pm in the Blue River Room of the North Branch Library. Admission is free.
Ricky and Chris lived in SE Asia for a few years from 2010 to 2013. “We did all of our discretionary traveling to remote areas.,” said Chris. “Ricky was superb at picking out some simply awesome places and Borneo was one of them. We travelled there in December 2012,” he added.
The two traveled on their own, but stayed at an ecological camp deep in the jungle that had excursions into Tanjong Puting National reserve.”The close access to hundreds of Orangutan in their natural habitat and a visit with Dr. Galdikas made this especially worthwhile,” said Daly. They had not been to that reserve before, “Because of its remoteness, we are not likely to return,” he added.
