September is Library Card
Sign-up Month! |
This September, the Lafayette Public Library is joining forces with The Incredibles, the American Library Association and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-up Month. This initiative is to remind families, students and people of all ages that signing up for a library card is a great step toward a truly super lifestyle. “The library offers exciting programs, online learning, databases, books, DVDs, music, and more, all free of charge with your library card,” says Keith Guidry, Community Relations Coordinator. “There’s something for everyone.”
As new technologies evolve, libraries continue to lead the way by providing access to digital tools and media, which has become increasingly important in high-poverty areas
where students are less likely to have a computer or internet service at home. Students can turn to their public library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement. “A library card offers so many things that a student may not have at home: quiet study rooms, Wi-Fi, and in some cases,
a working computer and printer.”
