Our thoughts are with all those in our community who were affected by the recent floods. Our libraries

offer many free and low-cost services that may help in this time, including copying, faxing, Wi-Fi and

public computers with internet access. We also have several free programs for all ages planned in the 

coming weeks. You can see all of them in our fall newsletter, which you can access here.

Elberson Named Lafayette Public Library Director
The Lafayette Public Library System’s Board of Control officially appointed Teresa Elberson, who had previously served as the system’s Library Administrator, as its new director on Monday, July 18. The library’s previous director, Sona Dombourian, retired April 30th after 35 years with the system.

Library Millage on November Ballot
When you head to the polls on November 8th, you’ll have the chance to renew a parishwide millage that funds a wide range of library services and operations. The 2.91 mill property tax millage — the largest of three library millages in Lafayette Parish — was last approved by voters in 2006 and is up for renewal at the same rate.

Test the Air You Breathe
Learning about your home’s air quality  should be as easy and inexpensive as borrowing a library book. Thanks to Carnegie Mellon University, the Lafayette Public Library now has twelve Speck air quality monitors available for checkout, free of charge. The easy-to-use sensors detect particulate air pollution in the home.

Meet Newbery Honor winner and National Book Award finalist Kathi Appelt as she discusses her children’s books and how she creates a story. She'll do a storytime and Q&A session at the South Regional Libary and a explanation of her writing process at the Main Library.
