A Note from the Library Director:
Many people are asking when will the library reopen. Believe me, we are just as anxious as you are to resume services beyond digital. But there has been a lot of concern from all levels about just how that can be done safely in libraries that are by nature designed for "hanging out.” Unfortunately, the old normal is not going to happen for quite some time. Last weekend, all the libraries in Ohio were given a plan from our state library association with four phases to prepare for reopening based on CDC, OSHA, and health department guidance. We are working hard to obtain cleaning products, install plexiglass shields on all desks, and figure out maximum occupancy. The new normal will include restrictions on how many people are in each department and for how long. We have been waiting impatiently for the completion of a study that the Battelle Institute in Columbus is doing to figure out how long the virus lives on various library materials so that we can isolate those materials before checking them in. We want you to be as SAFE as possible! Before we reopen the doors, look for curbside pickup at Main and lobby pickup at the Askren and Belloni branches to begin first. The current target date for that is June 1, pending PPE arrival (for staff to handle the materials). If you have items on hold, that is when we'll start calling you and making arrangements for you to come get your books or movies, with no contact. That is also when we will open up the book drops for you to return the library materials you've kept for us during the Stay at Home orders. Thanks for keeping an eye on them! Remember, there will of course be NO FINES on any of them. Watch for more information in the next few weeks. And...thank you for missing us, just like we miss YOU!
