Massillon Public Library
News & Notes - August 2018

Hello All,

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former library director Camille Leslie. Camille retired in 2011 after 29 years of energetic and forward-thinking leadership. Air-conditioning, an elevator, bookmobile service, two new library branches, a parking lot for the public, a remodeled children's room and auditorium, automated circulation, internet service — these are just some of the ways she impacted our Massillon Public Library. A fearless advocate for intellectual freedom, Camille defended library users against those who wanted materials removed from the shelves. Passionate about serving every part of the community, she worked with board member Patricia Beane to start the library's still vital Cultural Diversity Committee, along with the Friends of the Library and volunteer programs.

Camille had a kind spirit, a sharp mind, and a life of purpose. We are devastated. Our sincere condolences to her beloved husband Ed Leslie, a professional and internationally-published author.

Atkinson-Feucht-Hare Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Calling hours were Monday July 2nd from 6-8 pm. The funeral was at First Baptist Church Sixth SE and Lincoln Way at 1 pm on Tuesday July 3 with Pastor Larry Lalama of Camille's church, Central Presbyterian, which is currently under construction.

She will be greatly missed!

Director, Massillon Public Library
