Hi Library lovers,
You probably realize that our communications to you in recent months have been abbreviated. For some of you, the lack of a fat colorful print newsletter is a big inconvenience and without it, you’re feeling a little out of the loop as far as library programming. Fear not! This is not the new normal, it’s a transitional period in our Marketing staff and their procedures. For the short term, be sure to regularly check our website under “Events.”
Coming this fall will be a new software suite that will tie in multiple processes spread all out among our staff, from booking the meeting room for a program, to scheduling press releases and taking reservations. It also will let us pull information on all our programs into newsletter formatting. This software is called “Communico” and we’re very excited about it. The training period is allowing us to pare back our many color copies and try something different. Bear with us as we experiment, and as always, I’m a phone call or email away if you have feedback.
Changing topics, *some* programs and services are moving ever closer to our pre-pandemic state. With the new Teen Lounge officially open—it’s getting prepped for a teen program later today!—and twice the public computers back, comfy seating is making a comeback. And *that* is what patron comments tell me has been missed the most. With over 800 children signed up for Summer Reading Club this year, we feel like we are getting closer and closer to “the old days.” It’s a good feeling.
The only thing we’re missing is YOU, if you haven’t visited in a while!
- Sherie
OK, my book recommendation sounds weird…but trust me. One of the narrators of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt is a Giant Pacific Octopus named Marcellus who spends his days in an aquarium tank and his nights sneaking out to snack on the neighboring sea urchins. But he also knows plenty about the loss many years ago of cleaning lady Tova’s teenage son in a boating accident, and how to impact relationships among the humans around him. Charming and addictive, and so satisfying!
