Hi Readers,
I had a unique experience earlier this week. I joined five other library directors on the “What’s Up Stark” podcast, where we all talked about our library’s involvement with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. That was fun enough, but then we were hit with the "speed round" with Q&A like "Your favorite book?" (Fahrenheit 451)…"Food you want on your birthday" (Fish tacos from Tlaquepaque)…"Most embarrassing moment?" (Making my husband dress up with me as Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife for a Halloween party, and no one else came in costume!) But the question that turned us serious again was, "What’s the best part of being a library director?" We all agreed that being part of the mission of the library and changing lives was the best. Another plus is the sheer variety of our day. But I added that relationships built through my role makes every stress worth it. That definitely means our rock star board and staff, community leaders, partnering agencies, and other library people. But it also means Vinyl Club folks who have become Facebook friends to talk music, patrons who text or email me with good ideas, and rabid readers who share book ideas. (Thanks Char and Sharon, and others!) You are all the best, most encouraging community!
Next up on my TBR (To Be Read) pile? Jodi Picoult’s The Book of Two Ways, another from the queen of moral dilemmas — with a little touch of Egyptology. Then, Amor Towels’ bestseller The Lincoln Highway, a stylish novel of the 50s with endearing characters.
Happy Reading and Happy Holidays!
