Frequently Asked Questions
Are library materials safe?
Yes! Library materials are safe to handle. A report issued nationwide on June 22 announced the findings of the Battelle Institute’s comprehensive research study
on common and frequently-handled library materials which were infected with COVID-19. In all cases, the virus was undetectable in lab studies on those materials after three days. The Massillon Public Library has been and will continue to quarantine returned items for at least three days. After quarantine, those items are checked in, heat-treated, and wiped with sanitizer.
Where are all the chairs?
The Massillon Public Library is in a "Grab and Go" phase of reopening and patron visits should be limited to an hour or less. Library materials should be checked out and enjoyed at home. Seating will return when it is safe for a longer visit.
Why are there so few patron computers?
During this “Grab and Go” phase of reopening and due to social distancing, our public computers are self-serve and fewer in number. We are working on returning to one-on-one computer assistance and training in later phases of our reopening. Please know that you can reserve a computer! Simply stop by or call the Reference Desk at 330-832-9831 x312.
Why are items still on my record that I returned days ago?
Because of the three day quarantine period, patrons will see items they know have been returned still showing up as “checked out” on their library record. However, do not worry as no fines will accrue on those materials.
Why do I have to wear a face covering?
** Effective July 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m., Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that the wearing of face coverings in public is mandatory in Ohio. **
We are requiring face coverings for anyone over the age of 2 years. If you do not wish to come into the Library to pick up your holds, please use our Curbside
Pickup option! Call your favorite MPL location for more details.
When will programs and story times return?
Due to social distancing, it is nearly impossible for us to bring back in-person programming at this time, especially since our Auditorium is being used as a storage area for extra furniture and for quarantining library returns! We definitely want to bring back programming and we will as soon as we can. In the meantime, watch for library programs to be presented via Zoom, a free videoconferencing platform!
