Booklist Review

Whether he's taking a birthday camera and becoming a feared paparazzo, striking it rich by hitting oil in the backyard, or trying to go viral with the best prank ever, Bart Simpson is never boring. Along the way, his sister Lisa has to deal with the mystery of the pesky desk and with the trauma of getting her first pimple. This collection of comics based on The Simpsons television show is occasionally hit or miss. The stories featuring Bart are funny but in a more mean-spirited way (typical of the original character), and a few tales feature fairly bland art. Lisa's mystery solving, however, is a nice homage to Nancy Drew, and it is always great to see baby Maggie getting her time to shine, especially when she pulls one over on Bart with the help of an unusual fortune-teller. The best parts of the collection are the contributions from MAD magazine legend Sergio Aragones told in his signature wordless style and alternative cartoonist Peter Kuper, whose thickly lined work has just the right off-kilter feel for a Simpsons story.--Wildsmith, Snow Copyright 2014 Booklist
