Booklist Review
This collection of 15 vibrantly illustrated vignettes features sundry fairy-tale and nursery-rhyme characters, with an accompanying short stanza for each, as they get ready for bed. Two-page spreads depict the cartoon characters and color-filled, decoratively embellished scenarios with fanciful and droll details, like Goldilocks at a bathroom-sink mirror, with everything from rubber duckies to stepstools in threes, bears just visible through the window. Prince Charming (You're disarming . . . but snore so loudly / it's alarming!), meanwhile, snoozes away under the gaze of wide-awake animals and creatures. Rhymes often employ contemporary, casual terms, although Want a fella, / Cinderella? / Eight hours' sleep / will make you bella stands out for its somewhat-sexist tone. Occasionally, allusions to the tale rely on prior knowledge, as in Don't rough it, / Little Miss Muffet. / Fluff a pillow / chuck the tuffet! while a spider hovers above. But the charming visuals are certainly a draw, and for those familiar with the stories, the playful approach will likely amuse and entertain.--Rosenfeld, Shelle Copyright 2017 Booklist
